Wait!  I like Don't Pass Me By!  It's good ol' bluegrass.  I grew up in North Carolina and down there we like bluegrass.  And grits too!

But it sounds better when these guys play it...

If Revolution 9 came on the radio I would run to turn it off. If I had no control over said radio I would leave or put my fingers in my ears and hum something soothing like "Wild Honey Pie".  ;D

That's actually not a bad version at all. But I agree with nimrod, the original 'Don't Pass Me By' is the worst Beatles song ever recorded to my ears.

You might jes' like bluegrass, then.  If'n you'd like to live here in the US, let's all see if'n you can pass this here North Carolina Residency Examination:

                                   NORTH CAROLINA IMMIGRATION SERVICES

During the past few years, North Carolina has seen an incredible influx of immigrants from foreign lands, such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California.  Because of our continued practice of southern hospitality, we have allowed all immigrants to enter our state without first ensuring that the immigrant was culturally, spiritually, intellectually, and financially compatible with the other residents of North Carolina.  As a result of substandard immigrants entering our state, the North Carolina immigration office has composed the following application/entrance exam.  A score of at least 70 percent is required before an immigrant is granted privileges to inhabit any section of North Carolina.  An official North Carolina Immigration officer will assist you in filling out the application since several parts of the application require either verbal or physical investigation to ensure adequate entrance level readiness for residency in North Carolina.

Here's an early take of Carl Perkins' Honey Don't...

CARL PERKINS alternate take 2 HONEY DON'T SUN 1955 SUNBOX 101 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDvY9Is7jPo#)

Sometimes I love you every Saturday night
Sunday morning you don't look right
You've been out a paintin' the town
Lookout gal you've been sleepin' around
So ah hah honey don't!

Sometime you will, baby, when you won't
I know you can even if you don't
So tell me baby that you sure love me
Ah hah oh honey please
Ah hah, oh honey don't!

Too funny! I wish I'd had an abbreviated (and enlarged) one of those when I lived in Virginia to wave at people whose cards sported bumper stickers that read "Happiness Is a Yankee Headed North." (As a native of New York State, that rankled, even though I know I should have risen above the annoyance.)

Relax, Kathy and Kelley.  I think the bumper sticker is just an example of good ol' southern humor and nothing more.

The North Carolina Residency Application was written by an RN I know.  She's from Blowing Rock, NC  They know how to poke fun at themselves as well.

I agree with you Todd. This song and another one of theirs that I liked better came out when I was spending hours and hours driving my daughter to her 4H events. She controlled the radio and these songs were like a breath of fresh air compared to the stuff I had to endure! Talk about emo; the more the singer whined the more the song got played and it seems to have continued to this day. Of course I don't have to listen to it now and while I do miss that time in our lives I do not miss the soundtrack!

I wouldn't say these are the worst Beatles songs, but taking into account the huge resonance they had, I think that "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "The Long And Winding Road" are poor records in comparison to most of what the Beatles did.

Of course, I do think that "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "The Long And Winding Road" are good enough songs, but in my opinion they are not among the best Beatles songs. I mentioned them because they are very famous, and I think that the quality/popularity ratio of those two songs is very low.

And I agree. I was just saying that in my mind (in which we sadly confuse bad to mean worse. That happens alot  :P) I don't think there are any Beatles song that are the "worst of their catalogue." It's all based on a state of mind/opinion, and my "cup of tea" may not be what someone else likes.

I'm not too keen on
Hold Me Tight,
Maxwell's Silver Hammer or
Run For Your Life.

Other than that - it's all good
tell me this is some sort of joke. Hold Me Tight is one of their best songs, as is Run For Your Life. on balance i like Maxwells Silver Hammer, but i often see alot of people trashing it as a poor fit for the abbey road album. if anything it is a very good fit for the album, but declaring it a childrens song and only a childrens song is a bit of a stretch for me, and it is besides the point.

Come on man, Hold Me Tight isnt one of their best songs. Its very low tier. As a matter of fact its filler actually. I like the song, but how many people or lists include this when talking about the Beatles greatest songs? Yeah, not very many.

hey 7 of 13, I asked for opinions, he/she gave it, (although I only asked for one lol) lets not argue about it or we'll be at it forever, everybody has theyre own opinion about the worst song. Lets respect others opinion without arguing, after all there is no best or worst its all subjective..

No Joke - not too keen on PM's vocal on Hold Me Tight.

Run for your life - If I want to listen to blatant misogyny I'll listen to the Rolling Stones thankyaverymuch.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer - A song about a Mass Murderer diguised as a children's song.

As the old saying goes, One man's trash is another man's treasure.

i just want to say i disagree, especially with Hold Me Tight and Run For Your Life. that people see this song as nothing more than a set of redundant, sexist and misogynist lyrics doesn't make alot of sense.
i can see how you could get the wrong idea about Maxwells Silver Hammer, but it is a nice bouncy track.

The Beatles themselves thought that "Hold Me Tight" was a poor song:

JOHN 1980: "That was Paul's. Maybe I stuck some bits in there... I really don't remember. It was a pretty poor song and I was never really interested in it either way."

PAUL 1988: "I can't remember much about that one. Certain songs were just 'work' songs... you haven't got much of a memory of them. That's one of them. You just knew you had a song that would work, a good melody. 'Hold Me Tight' never really had that much of an effect on me. It was a bit Shirelles."

PAUL circa-1994: "'Hold Me Tight' was a failed attempt at a single which then became acceptable album filler."

Of course, I didn't mean to change your opinion. I just wanted to show that we all have different opinions and even a songwriter can dislike his/her own song. For example "Every Little Thing" is one of my favourite songs and Paul said that it was just an album filler.

Ok. I've always found it curious that John sings on that one, as it was mostly written by Paul.

Yeah, I saw the whole match! Good for Tevez and MC that he came back, but hope this is not too late for the Citizens. They also suffered the absence of Kun Agüero during some past games; in my opinion Kun is now one of the Top 5 football players in the world.

Add a vote for Run For Your Life. After such an incredible album, to end it that way is so disappointing. The Beatles usually were so good at ending an album...Twist and Shout, I'll Be Back, Tomorrow Never Knows, A Day in the Life, The End, etc. But Run For Your Life is bad. If it had been in the middle of the album somewhere, I could've looked past it. But as the last song on such a groundbreaking, influential album, it bothers me.

Put me down for "Dig It" - now THAT's album filler, in my opinion. Followed closely by "Revolution 9" and "Don't Pass Me By."

As for Ringo's covers of Buck Owens and Carl Perkins, I have no problem with that. I do find it interesting that legend has it that Perkins was at one of the sessions where they covered a song of his. If it was "Matchbox", he obviously didn't correct the lyrics. Actually, I believe it was "Honey, Don't".

Oh, my. Please don't dare me. : )

As a Ringo song, it's not a bad try on his part. That's not the problem for me. It just sounds self-consciously hokey with that arrangement. I think his solo track "Sail Away Raymond" has a better sound as far at that genre is concerned. But don't fret; I still listen to "Don't Pass Me By" when it cycles through on my iPod.

My only problem is, like "Rubber Soul" and "Yer Blues" (as titles), Ringo and the others seemed to play it self-consciously, not quite doing it seriously, but in such a way as to "laugh it off as a joke" if it didn't work. That's just my opinion.

tbf though I dont think Dig It was an actual track, its just a bit of studio fun that they were having between takes, it was left on the album to give it a 'live' feel, just like Johns 'Sweet Lorreta fart' comments and 'phase 1 in which Doris gets her oats' banter, just that this made up banter had them singing it

I think the worst actual song for me is Dont Pass Me By, Ive never liked that genre of music, Ive never really liked Ringo's vocals and its way too long, for me its just horrible, the lyrics could have been written by a 12 year old
