The Vines debut album 'Highly Evolved' is up there with 'East' by Cold Chisel as my pick as the best Aussie album ever.

That was a really good album. I have the cd still. Unfortunately their lead singer had some depression issues or something which stopped some touring and the band never recaptured that huge success. They're still going around though.

Yeah, I bought their second album, 'Winning Days' and it had some good moments but nothing like the first. Then their bass guy left, and the lead singers probs got worse - he has Aspergers. Their third album I didn't but as it was virtually over by then.

Highly Evolved is in a book called '1001 Albums You Have To Hear Before You Die', which is pretty mind boggling as that book covers the whole history of music in it!  But it is a fantastic album, full of Beatle influences  as well as Nirvana.  I recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it.

Moog mentioned Jimmy Barnes- I can't get enough of Working Class Man. Beautiful strong raspy voice!

Barnsey (as he's affectionately referred to downunder) has become a bit of a cliche for his shouty hard rock voice. But he's a good singer I think. He deserves more credit than he's given.
