A true Beatles story (1969)

(1/2) > >>

Sun_King:
Hi folks, I love this story, which seems to get little attention in the memoirs. Four of the most famous people on earth!

During the recording of Abbey Road (late summer 1969), and at the height of the Klein v's Eastman lawyer furore as the group wrangled bitterly, John and George (with a pliant Ringo) were annoyed to see that the expected Paul was absent from the studio recordings. They abruptly broke the session, perhaps leaving George Martin mystified?

They hopped into a taxi and headed for Paul's house, scaled his high walls, snook through his garden and knocked on the door. An incredulous McCartney answered. Lennon asked bluffly why he hadn't shown up for the session.

"It's Linda's birthday" (Sept) McCartney replied innocently, to which lennon swore and reminded him that they all could have stayed at home with their wives, but at McCartney's insistence they had all 'got back' to record Abbey Road.

Furious, the three stormed off the way they had come, but not before an irate Lennon (and I think Harrison) bricked Paul's windows before laughing and scaling the wall into the waiting taxi back to the studio!! ;D

I have read vaguely about this incident in one of the books. In another version, John put his foot through a painting he had given Paul.

Wow John's one to talk... ???

I've heard stories about Paul getting his window broken and his painting (from John) destroyed by John... Ouch. It's just too sad...
