How's it going starofwonder? I hope all is well with you. I like some of Harry Nilsson's songs, here's one of them. Take care.

Very true starofwonder! I read that John, Harry, Keith Moon, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ringo got ejected from quite a few bars around the L.A. area during John's year and a half "lost weekend" binge. Take care.

Two of my favorites on that album are...

and...

Coconut - Harry Nilsson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nzRTZvR3M4#)

(Just one chord!)

Coconut - Harry Nilsson

I got in trouble for playing that record. My brother said it was just about all he and his buddy could find on the radio when they went to Maryland and he never wanted to hear it again. So I played it every chance I got.  ;)

Harry Nilsson..." One " (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nB5VxPOoio#)

From Wikipedia:

Nilsson wrote the song after calling someone and getting a busy signal. He stayed on the line listening to the "beep,beep,beep,beep..." tone, writing the song. The busy signal became the opening notes of the song.

Hi Hello Goodbye! I love this video! HARRY NILSSON was very talented as a songwriter and a performer. No wonder John Lennon considered him such a good friend. Take care.

I'll admit to enjoying a bit of a sing song and I can sing song a little bit in my own inimitable style but I get to that bit in the Nilsson one where it's "I CAN'T LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE" my voice breaks on that each and every damn time, he's probably the best singer ever, so very emotive with it too...

Hasn't he got 4 octaves which is like half an octave more than Freddie Mercury and Paul McDougal? I'm not proficient in such technical matters, I think I heard that once though...

Would not be surprised at all.

Hi Ollier! How are you? Welcome to the forum. HARRY NILSSON has one hell of a voice. I underestimated Nilsson's vocal ranges for many years until I heard many of his other songs. Doing this, I would soon realize that this man can really sing.

As I understand actually Ringo and Harry were closer. I don't know if John introduced Harry to Ringo or the other way around. I know Harry, Una, Ringo and Barbara and all of the kids used to hang out..

This is usually the same part where I screech along to the song with wine bottle in hand.

Hello BeatlesForever thanks for the welcome, I'm not really all that up to date on Mr. Nilsson I only have a best of double album but have always meant to get more, alas record shops are all but dead these days and I'm an old fashioned guy, maybe I'll check a couple out at christmas perhaps...

It's certaily up there as one of the great depressive drinking songs didn't Pete Ham write it? Google says he wrote it with Tom Evans, what a tragic history the song has...

I heard Harry finnished up a final album on the day that he died, anyone know why this has never been released? Infact what's the situation with any of his albums, are they all available, remastered or on itunes?

Pretty poor state of affairs if this is not the case...

Hi Ollier! I hope all is well with you. Before HARRY NILSSON died on 15 January 1994, he was working on an album entitled PAPA'S GOT A BROWN NEW ROBE. I have heard some of the tracks such as 'U.C.L.A.," "It's All In The Mind," "Try Try Try," "Animal Farm," "Lullaby" and "Woman O Woman" just to name a few. In my opinion, these are not bad songs at all, however, there are some songs that were not completed as well as some songs were just demos and not finished. I am not sure if the PAPA'S GOT A BROWN NEW ROBE album will ever be released since it was never finished but I am hoping that the finished songs will appear in a new HARRY NILSSON compilation in the near future. We'll have to see what happens Ollier. Take care.
