It was not my purpose to ... or ... I just posted a well-known photo and write: "sure three of them regreted taking this photo" but then people began to ask and tell things ... the same as I did. (the "bigger than Jesus" thing came to my mind again, this time with the "Macca's LSD thing"... I'm paranoid)

Two things which politicians and people often lack are imagination and will. Will often flows from imagination. So maybe it's not just an idealistic lovely sentiment. Imagine certainly has caught the imagination of many people. But, I wonder how much people would agree with the words if they really knew them or thought about them. A few years ago I was teaching Italian teenagers English, and they almost begged me to play Imagine for a listening practice and to discuss the words. They thought it was such a wonderful song, as many do. So, I did. By the time we'd listened to it several times and started discussing, their disappointment set in. I could see it on their faces. A world without countries, and no religion!

I'm sure a great many people in the world would disagree with it if they really thought about it. Maybe Lennon wasn't so much describing a perfect world we can all agree with (even though that's how people take it), but actually challenging people's way of thinking. Sounds like Lennon. 'Think for yourself', as George said!?

But, personally I'm fine about no countries and borders in an enlightened world. And, actually, globalisation, if it works, is taking us there. Passports haven't been around that long in history. And everything is change.

This is all too spooky for me. They actually use the word "worship."
I'll remember the brilliant, contradictory, flawed drug taking musician who knocked out good tunes, played a mean guitar, said awful horrible things about his old friends and saw spaceships from the roof of his house. Bless. These people will have him walking on water next. This cannonisation creeps me out.
And we think "all black men in baggy trousers are gangsters"? Dear me. (it reminds me of the people who complained to the police about a parent who wanted to develope photos of their kids playing in the bath, convinced that their motives must be sexual. They see darkness and evil everywhere, but probably are just reflecting their own nasty little biases.)

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I can't even believe it's been 26 years since this happened. I had a weird moment last night.  When I went to bed I put on a David Bowie CD to fall asleep to. I was totally unaware of the date. I hadn't even given this day a thought yet. Then in the middle of one of the songs when I was kind of starting to fall asleep I had this image of the Dakota and John. Then I suddenly remembered what day it was. It just struck me as strange that I would just have this image pop into my head when I was not even remotely thinking of the date and I was listening to another artist. It was just very weird. Then I just started remembering the day I found out and stuff which depressed me. It was very bizzare.
Anyway, in class today I played Lennon and me and my students talked about John. I put a happy face on the board each day for the kids that are doing a good job so today I drew the John Lennon portrait. The kids are so funny. They had so many questions about John. They seem to really admire him. One kid said, "I want to be a John Lennon fan." I don't know what he meant by that and all, but I thought it was great. Well, sorry for the long winded response when all I really wanted to say was rest in peace John. The world sucks without you, but at least we have your music and words to inspire us to do better with it.  :'( :'( :'(

I think John would have continued to criticize the powermongers and returned to his radical song style. People listened to him, and we have no other voice for that. Except that Bono and Geldof do stand up for the African exploited.

Rest In Peace, John.
