Title: Let It Be or Let It Be Naked?
Post by: sittingatthedocksatsouthampton on June 29, 2004, 06:52:56 PM
I actually prefer the original.
Am I in a minority of one?

I think I like the Naked one better. It just more pure, just the beatles there, no orchestrations.

Naked. I actually enjoy it from start to finish for the most part. Let It Be was a real tough listen for me. Especially those HORRID versions of "Get Back" and "The Long and Winding Road"...

Let It Be Naked is better than Let It Be knackered, in my very humble opinion! ;D

Let It Be....I heard the original Get Back album with the complete version of Dig It as in LIB, a different version of Let It Be than movie or original album with the original album cover about 15 years ago.

My vote on Let it Be Naked as well. Cutting off those sappy strings on The long and winding road is in my opinion one of the greatest improvements in modern music history...

i liked both...if anyone has said this i'll just blow my own horn

when they made let it be... they had the "naked" verson but the people who were over them wanted something "Big" to let them go. so john, paul, and george added all of that stuff

I honestly love them both.  Although it isn't one of their best, the original Let It Be is one of my favorite albums.  However, I love the sound quality on Naked.  I agree that TLAWR is much much better w/o the strings.  I was so very disappointed with the "fly on the wall" disc though.  There were so many good things they could have done with a bonus disc relating to the Get back sessions, and they waste it on that little bit of gibberish.

Let It Be.  Here's why:

1) Removing the strings in TLAWR didn't improve it much IMO.  The strings added a big UUMPH to the song which was BADLY, BADLY needed.

2) Let It Be on the original is way better.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, George REALLY is hauling butt in the original, where his solo is vastly superior to Naked's.  He is also heard at the end way better than on Naked, and I love the trumpet and orchestra backup.  It's just way better.

3) Some of John's songs were removed on Naked.

1) Strings were too sappy for me
2) Yeah, the LIB...Naked version isn't as good as the one on the original album, but that version was nothing compared to the single version on PM2...
3) I don't count Dig It or Maggie Mae as songs....

Well, Althoug I really love Let it be naked, I must say JOHN never got to know let it be naked, and he wouldn't have aproved maybe of the many changes. Take into account that it was JOHN who decided to nring Phil Spector in to do something with the amount of tapes they had recorded.

1) Lack of strings is too empty.
2) Since we're not including Past Masters, that's irrelevant :).  Not to mention LIB > PM2.  The guitar solo isn't as awesome in PM2.  Measure 3 of the guitar solo on LIB is soul-capturing, and the backup was much better.  It sounded more like instruments than one big sound.
3) Some people do count the latter.  Dig It I wouldn't count either.  And I was almost certain that they took out Dig a Pony too.

Let's also not forget Get Back: It was cut off horribly on LIBN, but LIB has the famous, "I'd like to say thanks on behalf of the group and our friends.  I hope we've passed the audition."

LIBN.

John said of Phil Spector's orchestration: He was given the sh*tiest load of badly recorded sh*t ever and made a great album out of it.

I recon the Abbey Road engineers did the same without sticking on any over powering strings.

In other interviews JOHN said Spector did his best out of the amount of crap the Get Back tapes had become.

For me its a coin toss because I like some cuts on the original than I do on the stripped version. I do like the fact that LIBN has Don't Let Me Down on it but I think adding the 1 track and then mixing up the original tracklist was pointless really because it was virtually the same songs from the same album. They really should have used the original mix by Glyn Johns because it has a radicllay different tracklist and still had the stripped sound. This mix has Save The Last Dance For Me and Teddy Boy with some chatter between songs it almost sounds like a live album. I do love the new version of the song Let It Be it's great. Two Of Us was also great. I wish they would have went for a ealier version of Get Back (song) to me the new version is just cleaner sounding. Oh well..

For me, I lean toward NAKED but a lot depends on individual songs..

Regarding Long and Winding Road, I tend to enjoy the string arrangement better -- but you have to consider that this is the version I've lived with for 34 years! It doesn't sound the same without those strings. Having said that, I also enjoy the NAKED version too. They're both different and enjoyable.

As for Let it Be I like the version on the original LIB album the best, hands down. The guitar solo is great. I agree with Frighty on all he said about this one. Never liked the single version (PAST MASTERS 2) as much.

I'm most happy about Don't Let Me Down being included on NAKED at last -- and I love the version they used.

I've Got a Feeling is my favorite track on NAKED -- I think it's much more rockin' and I prefer it to the original version.

Get Back sounds better and clearer on NAKED, and I actually could hear more of Paul's intonations and slang on the words ("for some Californiaor grass"). But I miss the ending with the "passed audition" and - even better - the single version with the climax and fadeout.

I agree with Joe Karlosi, that Ive got a Feeling steals the show on Naked.
I think the whole purpose on Let it Be Naked was to show the public what was meant to be..but sadly wasnt..all those years ago.
I like the simplicity of songs like The Long and Winding road, and feel Spectors input was too much like a Walt Disney production.
The Fake-Live feeling is brought across better than before, and the packaging has been done to a good standard.

The original Let it be* had the feeling of Death....the end..the dissolving of a great band. Naked has totaly changed this direction, and shone light on an album that was tagged with the *the Dream is Over.

Oh, One after 909..what a great song..with the rustic  - Rag  n Bone feeling.
The Rooftop performance...truly amazing.
