The name Lennon brings up different images and sounds in each person's head. It's a label that Sean Lennon, the only offspring from the union of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has gotten used to. It may bring along expectations or intense scrutiny of whatever he does, but, at age 35, he's been able to move past that.His latest project is one that he started with girlfriend/model Charlotte Kemp Muhl. The duo perform under the monicker, Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and are currently on tour in support of their sophomore album, Acoustic Sessions. I recently spoke with Lennon and Kemp Muhl by phone from their New York home about their tour and their musical inspirations toward each other.

An impressively large crowd braved the wintry elements on Tuesday night and made the trip to Iota to catch the local debut of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Of course, ticket sales likely were not hindered by the fact that one principal member of the band is the "Beautiful Boy" of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, while the other is a successful and strikingly beautiful fashion model. Seemingly unfazed by the burden of hype and fame that precedes them, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl met -- or perhaps even exceeded -- expectations with an enjoyable performance that marked their musical partnership as one whose fledgling development seems well worth watching.

Ave. bar was packed wall to wall with husbands, wives, hipsters, and everything in between, all in attendance to witness The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger kick off the American leg of their tour.Sean Lennon and girlfriend Charlotte Muhl took the stage along with friend and horn player CJ Camerieri. From the first notes, the trio embarked upon an intimate journey that showcased both thought provoking lyrics and angelic harmonies.

It's hard not to feel a twinge of jealousy when Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl discuss the beginnings of the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, their band.He, the only child of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and she, a globe-trotting magazine and runway model, had been dating for a year and, according to Kemp Muhl, "the only thing we were doing was going to cafés and sketching together and talking about movies and things." It sounds like a scene straight out of a Godard movie, or the fantasies of any would-be bohemian.

Sean Lennon and his Ghost of a Saber Toothed Tiger performed Sunday night at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. It was sort of an interesting convergence that Sean was in the same place that his dad John Lennon was kicked out of in a now infamous incident in 1974 also involving Harry Nilsson and May Pang.

The Apple didn't fall far from the tree by the looks of Sean Lennon - he was the absolute spit of his father John as he shopped in Los Angeles yesterday, even down to the bowler hat with some jaunty feathers.

Rebecca Minkoff Invites Sean Lennon's GOASTT to Perform at Runway Debut

It seems MUGLER's Nicola Formichetti was onto something when he tapped Lady Gaga to perform at his runway debut. Now, Rebecca Minkoff is bringing the idea stateside by making her official runway debut with the help of musical duo GOASTT. Held on Feb. 11, Minkoff will show her full line at Lincoln Center’s Theater, with musical accompaniment from Sean Lennon and Charlotte Muhl, who make up the band. “Originally when I was concepting the collection, a lot of the inspiration was photos of Charlotte,” said Minkoff. “So our CMO reached out, and they were interested!”
Muhl will wear a Rebecca Minkoff look during the show, and Minkoff anticipates the duo will sing about two songs. For Minkoff fans who can't make it to the tents, the designer has already confirmed that entire show will be simulcast on Facebook and minkette.com

Haunted by the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger
THE GHOST of a Saber Tooth Tiger is a mouthful. The band name does not flow freely when used in conversation, and creates even heftier roadblocks when assembled anywhere in the middle of a sentence. Though, it is notably peculiar that when viewed acrostically it spells "GOASTT," which when pronounced, reads like "ghost." Call it a stretch, but after spending ample time in the world of Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl's Acoustic Sessions, it seems the least bizarre of observations to be made.

Sean Lennon‘s last studio album, Friendly Fire, was brilliant. Not only was it chock full of great pop songs, but it also came with a DVD with a full album’s worth of cinematic music videos… for the entire album. Back in 2008, his new band Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (with Charlotte Kemp-Muhl) had a presence on MySpace… and put out some songs that eventually blossomed into the debut album – Acoustic Sessions (out in late 2010). They hit the road this past December & January, winding up with their last few shows here on the West Coast.

The duo will be recording a lot this summer, but not before making an appearance at SXSW in Austin in March. Their label, Chimera Music, will be hosting a showcase featuring a variety of bands on the label, including The
Ghost of a Sabertooth Tiger, If By Yes (Yuka Honda's new band) and the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, the group of Lennon's mother, Yoko Ono, which will be headlining the evening. "We've played SXSW as a band before," Lennon says, "but never as a full record label, so its kind of exciting."

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger - Acoustic Sessions (2010)
Featuring this dreamtime folk whimsy and a fabulist band name, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger sound at times like Syd Barrett, or maybe Simon and Garfunkel. Or, like an ornate, late-night 1960s French pop singer, after perhaps one too many tokes.
What they don't sound like, not really, is John Lennon. And that's saying something. See, last November's Acoustic Sessions is the quietly issued debut of Sean Lennon second son of Beatle John; only child of his union with Yoko Ono -- and talented multi-instrumentalist/model/girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl as the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Sean is, actually, this atom-smashing blend of his two parents, with the gentle romanticism and sharp wordcraft that represents one part of his father's complex legacy, but also the far-out mysticism of his conceptual artist mom. Yet, in his own very gentle way, Lennon slips away from celebrity's claustrophobia with the GOASTT's understated Acoustic Sessions, a fantastic effort in the literal sense of the word.

The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger
As the only child of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon really needs no introduction. Actually, neither does Charlotte Kemp Muhl.Without knowing it, you’ve probably seen the 23-year-old fashion model in commercials for Maybelline, or in the pages of your favorite glossy magazine. Together, they are surely one of New York’s most artsy and fashionable couples. Aside from forming a romantic relationship, they also started Chimera Music together and they formed a band called The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (often abbreviated GOASST and pronounced “Ghost”). Bob and I took the train from to New York to interview them at Sirius. For their recent tour, and for the studio performance GOASTT gave us, Sean and Charlotte were joined by horn player CJ Camerieri who can do amazing things with a trumpet and a french horn. To their regret, CJ does not appear on The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger’s debut CD called Acoustic Sessions. After a late start, the three played most of the cuts from the album plus a few new songs. Sean sang, while playing guitar and a kick drum at the same time. Charlotte sang and alternated between an electric bass, an accordion and melodica, while CJ added beautifully strange textures by electronically altering his horn playing. I saw this same trio perform flawlessly live on stage a few weeks before but for this studio session, we indulged Sean and Charlotte’s competitive perfectionism so recording the songs took longer than expected, but we were still able to record a 40 minute interview with them before Bob and I said thank you and rushed back to Penn Station to catch our train to DC.

Lennon's Ghost in Marfa
It was a surreal evening and the product of a fluke happenstance. Last month, my good friend and gifted songwriter, Laura Gibson, informed me that she was going to be the opening act on tour for Sean Lennon's new project, the Ghost of a Sabertooth Tiger, a duo with himself and his partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl. Since Laura had a break in the tour in between Austin and Tucson, she asked me if I wanted to put together a show for her and I. As a joke, sort of, I suggested that if Sean Lennon wanted to play on the bill, we could make room. She called me back a few days later and said, "Well actually..."
And so that is how I ended up on a bill with the son of John and Yoko, the beautiful boy himself. While Sean does not lean on his heritage, he doesn't reject it either. He is the incarnate image of his 60s era father and doesn't try very hard to sound or look very different. Why should he? He seems comfortable with his inherited talent, but not necessarily the legacy. His tiny band travels with one extra trumpet player and a sound man in a modest van that they load and unload themselves.

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger's Gainsbourg Homage
On their new EP, La Carotte Bleue, the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger's Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl indulge their Francophile jones – the swoony duo is heavily influenced by such icons of Gallic cool as Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin -- by recording a couple tracks in French. Bang on a Can Marathon, June 19 @ the World Financial Center Winter Garden

When Paranormal Meets Prehistoric
It's clear that Sean Lennon shares with his famed parents a passion for eccentricities. So it's only natural he would end up with another quirky character, model Charlotte Kemp Muhl, a gifted songwriter and singer. They sing acoustic songs whimsically about the past, love, outer space and, according to Lennon, "modern things like the end of the world." Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger's debut album Acoustic Sessions, was released on the duo's label chimera records.
Before they kick off their tour opening for the flaming lips, Real Detroit caught up with the fascinating Sean Lennon.

Recap of Day 2 of the Nelsonville Music Festival
Torrential downpours throughout the second day of the Nelsonville Music Festival could not prevent an eccentric superstar from stealing the show.
Wayne Coyne won the crowd over with oversized confetti-filled balloons, a space bubble and butterfly kings despite a late arrival that pushed many of the earlier shows back.The Flaming Lips' buses arrived around 9 a.m. when they were originally supposed to arrive around 6 a.m., and their complicated stage set-up meant that it needed to be completed before the other shows could begin.Coyne was omnipresent throughout the day, making a point of seeing other shows. Post reporters spotted Coyne checking out fellow Oklahoman Samantha Crain's act in the No-Fi Cabin and popped up on the side of the main stage during The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and Yo La Tengo.The Lips' frontman expressed his pleasure at the day's festivities throughout the band's set, saying several times that he wanted to return."Whenever we play a festival, we're usually the weirdest ones there," Coyne said. "Today, we fit right in."Sean Lennon, frontman of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, also expressed interest in returning to the festival after fans begged for an encore that the band, whose 19-year-old drummer was performing his second show, was not prepared to play.

Concert Review: Flaming Lips take Fillmore fans on a trip
DETROIT — Local fans have waited awhile for Flaming Lips' return. And they wound up waiting awhile longer on Friday night (May 13) at the Fillmore Detroit.The show's start was delayed 45 minutes (with doors opening an hour late) by the late arrival of New York-based opening act The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, whose frontman -- John and Yoko's son Sean Lennon -- has enough juice to still get the group a full sound check. That left the crowd standing out on Woodward Avenue to catch sounds coming from the Tigers game at Comerica Park, but fortunately the Lips' fans, a docile and patient bunch by nature, were content to while away the extra time on the sidewalk.

The Good: The night got started with a 30-minute set by Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Fronted by Sean Lennon, the band’s sonic delivery was a bit different than the last time they were in town. Instead of a duo performing mostly acoustically like they did at the Evening Muse earlier this year, the group was now a quintet with drums, electric guitar and more of a punch.

Flaming Lips' Six-Hour Song Sounds Like 'Velvet Underground Meets Super Mario Brothers'
Psychedelic rockers the Flaming Lips have spent the better part of two decades embracing high concept gimmicks – car stereo symphonies! Four-CD sets designed to be played on four stereos simultaneously! – but their latest project, a six-hour composition intended to accompany a strobe light toy, may be their wildest project yet. Rolling Stone caught up with frontman Wayne Coyne just after he and the band wrapped up recording the song to discuss the ambitious undertaking, the band's other outrageous plans for the future and why the Flaming Lips may never make another album.
You were raising money for the Humane Society and the Academy of Contemporary Music by having people donate money to have their names sung in the song. How did the names become part of the music ?
We would break it down in to like half-hour sections just so we would have some kind of gauge of what we were gonna work on. So, you know, for me and Steven, this became 12 different sections. In all these different half hours of this song, there are moments where you kind of feel like you could insert 10 names into a strange little mantra. We kind of look at the list as like, there’s like a couple of movies out there where they read the list of all the people who have gone missing in the Bermuda Triangle. Over the past couple of nights we’ve had Sean Lennon, and he’s read this pretty big list. I’m not sure of the number, but it’s over a couple hundred by now – and he’s read this whole list over the phone in kind of this strange tone that I think sounds like his father. It’s meant to sound eerily like the ghost of John Lennon or something.

HitRECord is an open-collaborative production company in which artists can submit songs, stories and short films on its website, hitrecord.org, and different artists can contribute or remix the pieces. The Flaming Lips are pretty into gimmicks right now — they have packaged songs inside of gummy skulls and gummy fetuses this year — and so it should be of no surprise that the band’s latest weird product/release format is light and animation toy called the Strobo Trip. Sean Lennon and his girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl, both dressed in a Victorian style, were so busy posing for photos that their front-row seats had been filled by the time they got there. Eventually, some space was cleared for the pair, in town for a concert Thursday at the Café de la Danse. “It was very ethereal,” Lennon said afterwards. “I think they should have handed out snorkels for everyone though. I was holding my breath the whole time.” His publishing company, Chimera Library, will release its first book next year, “Invisible Flower,” based on drawings by his mother, Yoko Ono, from the Fifties.

Elvira Spektor, A&E Editor got the exclusive interview with The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger members, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
Elvira Spektor (ES): Tell me about how you two met and decided to make music together. Sean Lennon: We met in 2005 through Coachella [Music Festival]. I thought she was too young for me so we became friends first. Then we started falling in love… but it was a slow courtship. The music is nice for our relationship. It was just refreshing at first…now it’s a form of expression.ES: The “Los Angeles Times” said that your record draws from “classic, vintage folk and psychedelia.” How would you describe your sound ? Sean: We write music that we like. I’d say we’re a fusion of jazz and psychedelic rock. We’re influenced by Celtic music. ES: Charlotte, how would you describe your fashion taste ? Sean (jokingly): She looks like the Swamp Thing.

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger performance haunts campus
“We are Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger,” Sean Lennon says.And then, “It’s an unfortunate band name.”
“It kind of just stuck,” Charlotte Kemp Muhl chimes in, “like toilet paper on a shoe.” They start to play.

Awhile ago I saw some things on Twitter that said that Sean Lennon was on the steps at Zuccotti Park jamming with Rufus Wainwright and others. I found only one picture so I wondered if it was true.Well something just showed up on YouTube so I thought I'd write a quick diary to share it with all of you. Rock Royalty Spied Shopping in Hampden
Last Wednesday afternoon, as Charlotte Hayes Murray, owner of Charlotte Elliott and the Bookstore Next Door on 36th Street in Hampden, removed a long splinter from her son Andrew’s finger, two beautiful young people, a boyfriend and girlfriend, slipped inside her shop and began to browse the only way they knew how: sexily. A “pretty” assistant-seeming person followed close.
