There is going to be a charity album put out by Amnesty International with a bunch of John covers on it. At the moment the only song I can confirm is Butch Walker and Avril Lavigne performing Imagine.
Shut up. I'm going to like it, anyways, if it's as good as her KOHD cover. :)

oh

Indica, darling.

dam...not avril doing imagine...
-
Personally, I'm sick of all the Imagine covers. Even MADONNA covered it, for Pete's sake. It would have been nice to hear something different.
But, like I said, she did and excellent job of Knockin' On Heaven's Door (even my dad and his hippie friends thought so) so I'm interested in hearing this. It'll either be a hit or a miss.
I'm also interested in hearing the rest of the compiliation. I have a feeling it'll be good.
-
Not for me either.

eva cassidy did a cover of imagine 2

Good Lord ... I wish they would stop using the Lennon name as a lever or a hook. So many people have been doing it for 25 years now, from Ono down.
Ah, Johnny ... rest in peace mate. Some of us KNOW, y'know?
-
I agree with Ydoll. Too bad John doesn't have much say in this...............
-
every form of income has been dirived from one form of explotation or another.you who sit on the panel as judges will be passed by.......those from the nutless gallery shall be spared the sobriety of the pit.
i love how certain people just KNOW how a dead person would react...talk about your childhood wishes....
-
I think its a cause John would have agreed with when he was alive. I think he'd be quite chuffed knowing that 20 years after his death his name is still synomonous (spelling) with peace and can be used to help good causes.
Maybe its one way of making his death a little less pointless.
-
I'm not much for Beatle or solo effort covers, but hell, if its for a good cause, let em have at it. My only vice is, if John were still alive, he'd be singing it instead of somebody else, so I wouldnt get to bent out of shape.
-

What utter bilge you do talk sometimes! EVERY form of income derived from some form of exploitation??? What do you think exploitation IS? Find out, then change that ridiculous statement.
And: I like that bit about those who sit as judges will be passed by. The very next thing you do is JUDGE me--
i love how certain people just KNOW how a dead person would react...talk about your childhood wishes....
And the really interesting thing is that I'm NOT claiming to know how a dead person would react. The fact that you'd think that shows you are one of those who DON'T know - at all.

PC, just to clear things up as you seem to be out of the loop, before he died John Lennon left in his will thousands of journal entries, tapes, and raw emotions to Ydoll Gwyn, under the sole condition that the recipient use this gift to be as condescending and as big a dickhead as humanly possible. Clearly Ydoll is the only soul on Earth capable of being John's mouthpiece.

I'm amazed that you are studying English at University. Let's see: you have poor punctuation (Ill, etc) and poor syntax. Most of your posts contain elementary errors, so you can't put it down to typos.
But of course, getting to the threat: it's quite meaningless, as you can make the threat in absolute safety. You will never be called on it in reality. Also ... kicking someone in the face (f***ing face or not) is regarded as the act of a coward where I come from. But that fits, doesn't it? Cowardly threat of a cowardly action.

You may feel that you are helping this forum, with the corrective nature of your posts, but really, you are destroying the DM community.
Please, no one really wants you here.
Try and find somewhere, which will actualy embrace your posts.
Thankyou.

I really can't stand any of the Covers CDs. They take the flavors of the month and let them destroy these great songs. And shame on George Martin for putting together one of the worst with Robin Williams doing "Walrus" and Goldie Hawn doing anything.

It's not a matter of "helping this forum". I give my opinion. Some like what I say, some don't. That's what a forum is about.
But to be specific, I was just defending myself against another PC snide remark, and then against Herecomes. It's OK - I can handle it, as I'm not bullyable. It's just words on a screen.
You know, I bet you wish you could remove your threat of physical violence. Sadly though, it's now a quote in a post of mine!

Why? How could my age, or my job, or my education, make what I say any more or less valid? My points stand on their own merits (or demerits).
-
No, actually I don't...
I think it sums up my anger towards you, as a poster.
I really dont like the tone of your posts, or the self-absorbed arrogance that fuels them.
It's just the fact that ok, we all love The Beatles, and we all have our own opinions..but.the way you front your attitude..is very edgy.
(oh, and if you are going to relate my post with my own 'violence' ..then..go ahead..it's your main base of debate..turning around peoples words..and trying to make them foolish. It's not original nor clever)
I don't think you can handle it, deep down.
It's clear most of DM's doesn't really like you, but unlike Dirk etc..The moderators have no real grounds to ban you.
So, from now on (after you have the last word :) ) please can we not exchange comments. It's obvious we dont get on, so lets not poison any more threads.
-
Man, get a grip. It's a public forum, for heaven's sake!

Just extra information.
If you are going to be a long-standing DM poster, it's better to know abit about each other.
That's all.
-

Can I remind you that you posted, publicly, a threat (however empty) to me? We would never have exchanged words if it weren't for that!
-
But the times we do exchange words..it's never positive.

You are right there. Remember that smarty-pants Wordsworth remark you made to me, apropos of nothing? Remember that cowardly threat you just made? I wonder where the negativity comes from?
-
You can't seriously pretend to yourself this 'feud' was born solely from my posts.

Well, yeah, of course it was. You loathe me, but I'm indifferent to you.
As I said, get a grip.

get a grip?
...
I'm fine mate.
Lets just leave it at that
-
get a grip? Yes, indeedy. You've lost perspective completely, imo.
I'm fine mate. If YOU say so ... but allow me to differ.
Lets just leave it at that

Hmm ... don't be too sanctimonious. You've been part of some vicious squabbles here.

True, but i'm laying low and growing soft in my old age. Now, if you would just apologize to Indy, Apple, and PC you could take my lead and this place would be harmonious.
Nah, that wouldnt be any fun.

i am gonna dress the maker...and pop the shaker...hold on to your quakers.....if ever there was a mental peck here,we know who it bee.....

I know! I totally agree. I personally thought Avril Lavigne did a bad cover of Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door." Can't wait to see her make a mockery of "Imagine."
::)
-
Now, if you would just apologize to Indy, Apple, and PC
Uh ... no. PC loves to slag people off that he doesn't like (Wayne, Charlie, me), and loves to "lead" bully gangs. He had a go at me in this thread: I responded. Apology from me? No.
Herecomes joins in (the gang gathers) and has a go too. I responded. Apologize? No.
Then Indica (sensing a kill: how wrong he was) posts a very nasty and cowardly threat. He got a response - but will not get an apology.
-

I know a professional wrestler who talks like you. ;D

Not even clever. Just meaningless words on a screen (as usual!)
That sort of childish response (basically, "nah, nah, you're a poofter") simply doesn't impress me. But there is one positive you can take out of it: it made me laugh!

youre right, mine was a cheap shot and a bad one at that. I can do better. At least I know you'll give me another chance.

Tense exchanges on this thread. ...Steady now!!!
I really. really hope that Avril does not sing Imagine.....(Has that been confirmed or anything?)
-
Sorry, dude, but she is. I'm not sure if it's going to be like a full duet or just "Butch Walker feat. Avril Lavigne:. But anyways. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Fair one Mairi, I know you like Avril... I would just find it hard to relate to her (Almost anyone for that matter) singing such a cherished song. She's too young for a worldy tune like that imo. The accent may sound well wierd too.
I appreciate she will bring the tune to a younger audience thus recycling it's vibe.
Hope she can pull it off well. For the sake of John's Legacy if nothing else.
Still, Horses for Courses or diffrent strokes as you said. lol ;)
-
Well, if anything, it's got to be better than A Perfect Circle's cover. Everyone I know liked that but I thought it SUCKED. Imagine is supposed to be mellifluous. Which might work well with Avril voice, actually...
-
I hav'nt heard that cover by A Perfect Circle. What a lovely word..'Melliflous.' That's a cracker!
I had to check that out before replying. lol
I'd say it has to be sung with sensitivity and honesty rather than sweet and honey . It still could work...We shall see. I look forward to your opinion when it's released. Hope you don't think I'm getting at you or Avril. ;)
-
Nope, I love hearing other people's opinions and discussing them. It would be boring if everyone agreed all of the time.
-
Tell me about it!!!! lol

For some reason, I don't like girls doing over Beatles songs. I don't know why. I'm not much of a fan of female rock anyway. If this is anything like Fiona Apple's version of Across the Universe I'll puke. I think she was going for the meloncholy thing, but it came across as sounding like she was drugged or half asleep. And Madonna's version of Imagine...she should be arrested! But then, she should be put away for just for being herself anyway.

A big 'Yep' to all that.
-
Yeah. When Madonna did "Imagine" on that Tsunami Relief show ... holay crap, I walked in the door, flicked on the TV and didn't recognise it for the majority of the song. x.x It was... that bad.
I didn't like A Perfect Circle's version, either. =\ I just b****ed and told people to go listen to the original instead. :3
