"Inner Light" Any Good?
« on: September 27, 2006, 11:21:48 AM »

I bought a 45 with "Lady Madonna" on one side and a song called "The Inner Light" on the other side. Is this song any good I can't even remember how it goes and my turntable isn't turning right now?

It's one of George's Indian things. The best one in my opinion, even though I'm not really a fan of this Eastern stuff. I guess The Beatles liked it as well: it was George's first song to appear on a single.

The other song that seemed out of place was the flip side to "All You Need Is Love" which is "Baby I'm A Rich Man". Most 45s the songs complimented each other and these musically seemed at odds?

How about "Let It Be" and "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" then?!! Another bizarre combination! :)

The Inner Light though - absolutely brilliant song, very melodic and always makes me fancy going down the takeway for a curry!! ;D

I love the way you people in the "UK" call your fast food establishments " The Take away? You put corn on your Sub sandwiches also? Go down to the take away! My daughter use to love going to the pub and then taking the curry home to eat. Sorry Off the subject yes the "You Know My Name Look Up My Number" is a stark contrast!

Yes It Is on the b-side of Ticket To Ride is another strange one. I feel The Beatles sometimes tried to experiment with their b-sides, to see if another sound could be eaten by the public. This Boy, Rain, She's A Woman, Yes It Is.

I thought there were A-sides which the band wanted played on the radio the hit if you will and the "B-side" that was just put on the record? Because when given to the radio stations it would be introduced as the Beatles new song and on the Charts the "A" side was the only song listed?

^True. That's why the b-side offered some space to experiment somewhat. If it didn't work out (like Yes It Is for instance, imho), nothing was broken, for it was 'only' a b-side. If it did work out however (This Boy, I'm Down), one can see a further development of that specific sound. Interesting theory, right?

I always enjoy listening to Love You To - most likely because it's the most commercial, but I dig that sort of rising/decreasing scale on the sitar towards the end of the song.
