Did you notice how the girls, who were good friends, were dressed exactly alike? There was lots of that going around back then. :)

They're hysterical.

Forget Shea, Queen @ Wenley is better..... ha2ha

My former guitar teacher was at this concert when she was 13! She won tickets.

My former guitar teacher was at this concert when she was 13! She won tickets.
I’ll bet there was a lot of screaming and jumping up and down when she won those tickets, not to mention when she got to Shea! My cousin told me that one of her classmates got to go and for weeks she went around talking with a British accent. It really drove everyone nuts. LOL
-
Hi Mairi!
-
I’ll bet there was a lot of screaming and jumping up and down when she won those tickets, not to mention when she got to Shea!
Yeah, Shea Stadium was rocking! Me and my friends jumped onto The Subway Special To The World's Fair (the 7 train) without paying any 15 cents...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkMHe0udrjQ# (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkMHe0udrjQ#)
Then we snuck under the fence near the lake just like we always did when we went to The World's Fair but this time we headed over to Shea Stadium and got as far as the gate to the parking lot. That was close enough for us.
I see they took down the Shea concert video I posted. I hope y'all downloaded it...and saved 15 cents. ;)
-
^^^
You guys ignored the “Just pay 15 cents” part and skipped right to “hop aboard”. ha2ha
I didn’t know you were at Shea that day. And you didn’t even try to sneak in!
-
Hopping aboard subways and getting into the World's Fair was easy, Kelley. There was no possible way to get into Shea Stadium that night. Police were everywhere. Getting near the parking lot was a feat and we were satisfied with that.
We did the same thing when The Mets were playing at Shea. If we had nothing better to do, we hopped the train and went to Shea Stadium. After the sixth inning you could get in for free.
-
So could you hear the screaming over there by the parking lot gate?
-
Yeah. Loud and clear. After a bit of that, we hopped aboard one of the spanking new picture window Subway Special cars and went home.
I missed the 1966 Shea Concert. That summer I was a camp waiter contending with twenty-four 14 and 15 year old girls. They told me it would be the most difficult assignment when I got to camp. They were right.
-
You poor thing! I’ll bet your cochlea basilar membranes hurt then, too.
-
Actually they were quietly mischievous. Most of the time I was able to stay one step ahead of them. All those years of living out Tom Sawyer came in handy.
-
That’s a nice way to put it. I was afraid you had to put up with a lot of giggling and general loudness. We had a bunch like that in the library a few years ago. I kept reminding myself what my best friend and I were like at that age. Then a new one showed up and the giggling became the least of our problems!

Haha, she told me that her parents let her go on the condition that she didn't scream during the concert! They thought all the screaming and yelling was silly. So she enjoyed the concert, but no screaming!

Wow, that’s a lot of self control for a 13 year old!

Girls were either screaming, crying, catatonic or syncopal...

She was tough alright! icon_good

Girls were either screaming, crying, catatonic or syncopal...
ha2ha Yeah, that girl in the front looks like she’s upright only because there’s nowhere to fall.
Except this young girl who made a "John Face" at John...
I’d like to know the story behind that meeting.
-
I’d like to know the story behind that meeting.
She's probably from Cambria Heights, Kelley, where The Shangri-Las are from. They're the toughest girls around!
-
Could be! When I was growing up there was a little town over yonder where girls supposedly got into fights in the cafeteria. I believed it because I met a few of the younger ones at scout camp. They were looking to earn their scary badges!
-
Fighting cafeteria girls. They sure wouldn't be crying or fainting at a Beatles concert that's for sure.
-
No, they probably wouldn’t have.
-
Right.
Now these girls are pathetic...
Definitely not cafeteria fighting girls.
-
Two more...
And the two in the back who just had to wear the same top. Beatlemania was something else!
-
There was a lot of that going around...

I think they lost one there! Yeah, I’ve never read anything about fights breaking out at these things.
-
^
Cafeteria fighting girls would never buy tickets for a Beatles concert.
-
Never ever. :)
-
Yeah, cafeteria fighting girls (we had em in our school too) liked the same music the boys liked...

Now people let me put you wise
Sue goes to bed with other guys

When did he say that? ha2ha

When did he say that? ha2ha
So whaddaya think Sue was doin' with other guys? You gotta remember, Kelley, that The Belmonts started by singing on street corners in the Arthur Avenue section of The Bronx. They cleaned up the lyrics when they started recording. :)
-
So whaddaya think Sue was doin' with other guys?
Why, going out with them, of course.
No really, I thought maybe a recording existed with that lyric. Even though I was never a cafeteria fightin’ girl I’d like to hear it!
-
Why, going out with them, of course.
Yeah, Runaround Sue was going out with them, sure. You never lived in The Bronx.
-
I think you’re underestimating the boonies, Barry! :P
-
ha2ha
-
Anyway, Dion slipped in "slut, slut, slut, slut" at 0:35
-
I guess maybe I’m not so worldly. I hear “La, la, la”. ;D
-
I guess maybe I’m not so worldly. I hear “La, la, la”. ;D
Where does "la, la, la, la" fit into that song? This is Dion we're talking about.
-
I mean this is The Bronx we got here, Kelley...

Well you can have it! But I will admit I was wrong about Runaround Sue. I missed that extra “la”. But I’m sure he said slut when they were entertaining the Baldies.
-
Bronx girls were tough alright but nowhere near as tough as Cambria Heights girls...

Me and my friends jumped onto The Subway Special To The World's Fair (the 7 train) without paying any 15 cents...
Did you see this there the year before?
I’m in a Facebook group called Old Postcards of New York. They’ve been posting a whole slew of cards from the World’s Fair.
-
Yeah, Kelley. I remember that Ferris wheel but I never went on it. What we did, after hopping onto The Subway Special To The World's Fair and sneaking into the Fair under the fence by Meadows Lake, was to sneak into the Ford Pavillion and get on line for the Walt Disney Magic Skyway where we would strategically position ourselves so we could hop into a Ford Mustang...

We did a lot of hopping and sneaking in those days. ;D
-
The Magic Skyway was exciting for sure. But most absorbing was Walt Disney's Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln at The Illinois State Pavillion...

Both of those World’s Fair videos were great to watch, Barry. I’m not surprised that you boys didn’t settle for anything but the Mustang. With the Lincoln video we see the genesis of Disneyworld’s Hall of Presidents. I saw that years ago and it gave me chills. Unfortunately, it’s been closed since January because there’s been some sort of dispute with the White House over the speech that the animatronic Trump will give.
-
I’m not surprised that you boys didn’t settle for anything but the Mustang.
Competition to pile into a Mustang was fierce. Me, Jay and Josh weren't the only ones trying to catch a Mustang...
But we were polite. If a bunch of girls wanted to get in a Mustang, we'd let them...

There was always another coming down the lane soon enough.
