Does anyone know why Purple Chick used (or they did according to a couple of site track listings) the DESS US versions of Pepper instead of the DESS UK versions?  (Or even the red mono/MFSL versions?)

I read your post over at Penny Lane, but have not been able to find anything out about this. It is curious though.

It also may be inaccurate.  :-/  I was going by a track listing I had encountered in passing online, which credited PC's Pepper to the DESS US versions. However, the booklet artwork on the wogev PC art site clearly says the stereo is from the DESS Blue Box, and the mono simply says DESS mono without specifying UK or US. (Dr Ebbetts did both.)

The drum-beat beginning to "Reprise" could easily spin into "Billie Jean" instead of sgt. pepper.  Maybe I'm crazy...

I remeber that I it was mentioned on 'an' Anthology (book or DVD can't remember) that at the end of most live performances, the band would thank the audience etc. before the last song, so that afterwards they could immediateley leave the stage instead of having to give their thanks and walk off leaving the audience disappointed of their sudden departure.

Because the decission was made that there would be no more of the usual live performances, Pepper had to be a performance on itself, including the finishing speech before the last song. That became the Reprise: 'we hope you had enjoyed the show' etc.

Totally totally agree. It is so much denser and richer. Within You Without You especially benefits. And I presume if you're listening to it in mono you're listening to it on a vinyl, in which case I think it all makes much more sense as two sides. Again, WYWY has much more impact as an opener rather than just one song in a run of many on a CD

I agree about WYWY. I was listening to it on vinyl awhile ago and I thought it gave me a new appreciation for it.  :)

"'Bye!" (If you're talking about the drummed intro just before the guitars come in on "Reprise.")

The problem being, of course, that very little of that makes the slightest bit of sense. :)

It was to give it that 'end of show' feel, wasn't it?

I love that little reprise, particularly the drum beat - that's been sampled a fair bit by hip hop artists. In fact, I reckon it might be the first hip-hop beat on record.
