Hmmmm...
Imagine this for a second: You decide to go to the 2012 London Olympics, and
not only do you get to see an amazing international sporting event, but you get
to see the closest possible thing to a Beatles reunion, too. That's what
organizers of the London event are reportedly hoping for, anyway.
The remaining living members of the Fab Four -- Paul McCartney and Ringo
Starr -- have reportedly been approached to sing at the games next summer,
according to British press. As for the late John Lennon and George Harrison,
they could be represented by someone from their families.
Yikes, I sure hope in that last sentence they don't mean Yoko ;)

There was a rumour that The Beatles would re-unite for Band Aid (1986?), consisting of Paul, George, Ringo and Julian. These rumours were very strong. But it never happened. I doubt if it will be different this time.

I remember that, and I agree -- doubt it'll be different this time. Plus, it begs the question of what exactly constitutes a "reunion" when two of the four band members are deceased.
-
True that. Unfortunately, one could hardly call it a reunion. More 'a band with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in it'.

The one thing I hate is when they call it a "Beatles Reunion" when Paul and Ringo are rumored to be singing or working together. Did they call it a reunion when John or George worked on Ringo's tracks? No. You can hardly call it a reunion when it was George, Paul and Ringo being rumored to play together.

The story does not pass the stage of rumour. Ringo has said that he will be touring the USA next summer. So no 'reunion' in London next year.

That's good news anyway!

You can't have The Beatles without John and George! Just not gonna happen!
-
As I've said some time ago, it would be great to have Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey from the Who instead of John and George. It would be the WHOTLES!

I thought that this was probably just a rumour, even though I didn't know about the Band Aid rumour. I hate the use of the phrase "reunion" with those two as well. Apart from the reasons stated, it's just more milking of The Beatles' fame. The Beatles were fantastic, but the remaining members aren't just Beatles anymore. They contributed to the greatness that was The Beatles, yes, but they're doing their own music now and are too rarely seen that way. Even they seem to be sick of it.
