I was so fortunate to see Ray Thomas and The Moody Blues perform at this club venue at Caesar's Atlantic City in 1995.  I was sitting at a table next to thr stage in front of Justin Hayward...

Ray Thomas' voice grew richer as he got older...

Indeed. What a gift he had not just musically but with his ability to express those feelings.

I’ve always loved “On the Threshold of a Dream”. It reminds me of my brother. I was so lucky that he didn’t listen to music alone in his room but downstairs where it could be a soundtrack for my early years.

I forgot what a nice song that was. And he sounds great on it live. I was lucky enough to see the Moodies twice but I don’t recall them doing it. I think Ray was having his star turn with Veteran Cosmic Rocker at the time.

I was probably one of the few people who bought Ray’s solo album From Miighty Oaks. From memory it was a bit patchy but this song was Moodies-worthy I thought.

Thanks for posting that Moog, Ive never heard it before, very Moodies as you say.

Certainly a big production recording, Love Rays voice.

Never knew this btw.

Having become friendly with the Beatles, in 1967 Thomas recorded backing vocals on I Am the Walrus and played harmonica on Fool on the Hill.

I can find Ray Thomas (and Mike Pinder) as backing vocalists for I Am The Walrus. No mention of Ray playing harmonica on Fool on the Hill tho. Credited to George Harrison.

Lewisohn’s recording sessions book has John and George providing the harmonicas. No mention of Ray for that song.

Hi Bobber. I thought I Am The Walrus had only the Mike Sammes Singers. Where did you find that Ray and Mike were involved?

I'm very sad at Ray's passing. He seemed a very nice man. Legend of a Mind is my favourite Moodies track on my favourite album of theirs.
