I always think 'Boys' ignoring the obvious sexual innuendo is a great shouting rocker that suits Ringo's early 'Beat Drummer' image.

BEST: Please Please Me (for Lennon-McCartney), Twist & Shout (for a cover)
WORST: If I _had_ to choose, I'd pick Anna. But I really do like them all.

I must admit I raised my eyebrow to learn that Ringo was singing about "Boys". However, it's possible when you listen to it that Ringo is just saying the obvious to his audience: "Boys (such as us, these prime examples right here), what a bundle of joy. (Get your Beatle today!)". So it wasn't so obviously strange or potentially gay-sounding when I finally heard it. However, I can see why the gay community embraced this album, because they can totally hear that song as applying to them. It's one of the delights of the Beatles; they appeal to everyone! :)

I've always thought that even in the innocent times of '63 didn't they think recording a song with the lyric:
Don't ya know I mean boys,
Well, I talk about boys, now,
Aaahhh, boys,
Well, I talk about boys, now,
What a bundle of joy!

was a bit naff??

Well, I'm sure they used different lyrics in their club performances.

I remember Ringo stating that he wanted another song to sing instead of Boys. That's when John and Paul came up with I Wanna Be Your Man.

My favorite on Please Please Me is I Saw Her Standing There. Worst: Do You Want To Know A Secret. George's voice just don't sound too good.

Best: I saw her standing there, another song that defines that Beatles's distinctive sound,

Worst: A taste of honey, although Paul's vocals are great, well The Beatles is the only band that even those not so good songs can be heard once in a while.

Other one I like a lot is Twist & shout, no one can sing that song like John.

Given that it was recorded in 1 (ONE!) session, its a great album.  Plus John's having a cold--just listen to his stuffed nose.  Can't say there is a 'worst' song, maybe the weakest is 'A Taste of Honey'.  If I had to pick one 'best' song, it would have to be 'There's A Place'.  Love 'em all.

I never liked "Baby It's You" (I dont mean John's singing--that's great as always--I meant the melody here--It's kind of "choppy" (IMO). on the other hand, "Ask Me Why" & "Do You Want To Know A Secret" have that early "Beatley" trademark "sound" for me...something you really can't describe, but you know it when you hear it..
