If Brian Epstein, Clive Epstein and John Lennon say that Brian didn't buy 'Love Me Do' in bulk I tend to believe them rather than writers decades later who weren't even there. All this really arises from what Joe Flannery told Philip Norman - but Brian was the record buyer and he knew the system and the only records he would have bought would have been ones he knew he could sell in his Liverpool stores - and the record lept to No. 1 in my Mersey Beat charts.

I think "Love Me Do" was a good selection for the first single. The structure is as simple as a song could be, but the melody is unforgettable. The first time I consciously listened to the song, I recognized it as having been listened before. After all, it later was a #1 hit in US in 1964, and although Beatlemania was at its peak, not every Beatles single was #1 there.

Agreed, but he was a sensible businessman. Also, he would have known that ordering bulks of records he couldn't sell wouldn't have any impact on a chart position. The stories of him having stacks of copies of the record in a storeroom is rubbish.

its worth noting that Mark Lewisohn after all his  investigations also doesnt believe it

'Love Me Do' gets better with age for me.
It's always been my mum's favourite Beatles song - 30/35 years ago I might have disputed it, now I'm not so sure it's such a bad choice.
