Coming Up ?
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:10:21 PM »

" Coming Up " really is a great song , the studio or live version oozes pure pop brilliance ? and the video as to rank as one of the best  by any of the solo Beatles ?
Pitty only  " Waterfalls " comes close to it on McCartney II. So whats your thoughts on this little cracker of a song? :)

"Coming Up" is one of the greatest Paul songs from the 80's, in my opinion. The studio recording is so interesting, the annoying pitch of the vocals, those fade-in's and fade-out's of the tambourine at the end, the multi-tracked Paul's voice...

Does anybody notice this? The mix of this song included on the British version of All The Best! is absolutely awful! The sound quality is just terrible, the instruments are not clear at all, and you can hear a really loud cassette-tape-like sound. At first I've thought that was the recording and period. But when I bought McCartney II remastered, I listened really clear and bright.

I prefer the Wings 1979 Live in Glasgow version which still has not been made available on I-Tunes in the UK.

I did'nt know that  " Coming Up " is Paul's only solo # 1 in America and what i thought was the A - side the live version of the song was infact the B - side , the radio stations liked it better than the studio version so the B - side became the hit  .
I always thought he released two different versions the studio one for the UK and the live one for America ? :)

The album verion is absolutely horrible. The single version and live version are great though.

The b-side to the single had the live version plus Lunchbox Oddsox. Good stuff.

Lennon liked it!? I thought he hated "Coming Up" and the whole McCartney II album.
