I prefer the new CD, it sounds clearer because of the remastery. I never heard the record obviously, but I hear the old CD, before the 2001 re-release.

Having gone through the 2000 CD and the vinyl copy, I have to say that my preference is for the vinyl version.  I think it has a warmer feel, plus I prefer the "over the top" production to the slightly more "naked" feel of the 2000 CD.

I have to say though that I hate the colorized front cover on the CD; that should have been left alone.  And I wasn't crazy about the re-touched cover on the inside either at first, but it's growing on me.  At least George was trying to make a point with it.

I remember that once I've downloaded (ilegally, sorry) the original CD version of ATMP and it sounded awful. When I bought (yes) the 2001 remaster I was pleased. So, I would say the 2001 edition. Sorry Phil Spector. :)

I hope the people downloading that red-wax vinyl-download own a physical, purchased copy in at least one format!

I just played my old copy of the 1987 CD a few days ago out of curiosity, and it does sound bad. The Toshiba edition or the 2001 remaster are the way to go.
