I think Walls & Bridges released in 74 is one of John's weakest solo albums creatively, musically & artistically from this former Beatle because he seems to have lost focus as an artist & with his legend which had absolutely nothing to do with his breakup from Yoko at the time with only a few great tracks like Going Down On Love, Steel & Glass, Sweet Bird Of Paradise & the depressing downer ballad Nobody Loves You(When You're Down & Out) while I like the hit single Whatever Gets You Throught The Night now I have to admit I didn't like it too much when it was popular on the radio for some reason but I first listened to W&B for the first time back in 78 which wasn't too impressive.

If some of you don't have an opinion whether positive or negative about John's solo album Walls & Bridges then why call yourselves Beatles fans!!!

Because it's not a Beatles album, dumbo.
Luckily for me, I own the album (so I guess I'm a Beatle fan, phew thank God) and although it's not as good as Plastic,Imagine, Double F. and Mind Games I enjoyed the album. My favorites songs: Steel and Glass, Whatever gets you thru the night,9 dream, Old Dirt Road, Nobody Loves You...

You " wasted " all your time to tell me that W&B wasn't a Beatles album, you must get a life as soon as possible Bruno, I appreciate your opinion anyway.

What was THAT for? :(

Goodness, y'all get so riled up when someone DOES post his or her opinion, yet then you go berzerk when someone DOESN'T post an opinion! I don't get it! (confused)

yeah, I wasted all of my time (that is like 30 seconds) to write that. I guess I don't have a life, oh well.
Wayne, you should think twice before hitting the 'post' button.

it's Wayne, what do you expect from him?

Nicer posts?
-
Yeah, it's Wayne's constant and unnecessarily belligerent attitude that I greatly dislike.
As to W & B, I agree with Wayne.
-
Good grief - we get slated for not posting opinions and slated if we do! LOL
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Walls and Bridges - great cover though! My favourite track from that album is Old Dirt Road. I don't think it's fair to write off John after POB though - I think Imagine is one of the greatest albums of all time.
-
Imagine had some great songs on it.

I like walls and bridges I think there are some fine tracks on it. I prefer it to Imagine.

Wayne, just a piece of trivia: Walls and Bridges yielded John's only #1 single following the breakup of the Beatles (that is until Starting Over, after he died). The song of course is Whatever Gets You through the Night. Even his most famous song, Imagine, though a Top 10 hit, didn't chart to #1.
Two other interesting pieces of trivia is that album boasted some Beatle inspiration to it. First, the song Steel and Glass was Lennon scathing critique of Alan Klein -- one of those who you can safely agree ended The Beatles. Second, the song Scared was also rooted in Beatle folklore. When he sang "hatred and jealousy is going to be the death of me; I knew that right from the start," John was reaching out to Paul in a way to say, let bygones be bygones. An olive branch of sorts.

The first time I've heard that one. Where are these theories pulled from? (Note: the line is misquoted by Larry.)[/quote]
Maria, I'm not sure why I am responding to you. The lyric line is correct -- only that my grammar is better than John's. Here is his exact lyric:
"Hatred and jealousy, gonna be the death of me
I guess I knew it right from the start"
http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Scared-lyrics-John-Lennon/9A1D5F7FAB87357E48256BCA000837A5
I wrote: IS GOING instead of gonna.
By the way, there were several interviews with John towards the end of his life where he said he reached out to Paul on Walls and Bridges, and took shots at Alan Klein. (Hence the album title's name.) John never said which song, but if you can read lyrics, you can read tea leaves.

There are only two songs on Walls and Bridges that I really like. #9 Dream and Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird of Pardox). I prefer Imagine over this album.

Now wait a minute bub...Anyone can be a Beatles fan and not give a care whatsoever for their solo music. Its a matter of choice, preference, and so forth. Just calm it down...:)
I for one disagree with your assessment of Walls and Bridges. Then again, I disagree with a lot of the negativity displayed on this forum towards John's solo music. I may have just jumped on this board, but believe me I'm no obsessive John-worshipping teenie who thinks everything he did was perfect. I know better, and yet I pretty much love everything he did on my own initiative. I just think he was brilliant and I'm super big on his music.
W&B is a great, fun album. He sounds wonderful, there are terrific songs, and I enjoy listening to it all the way- except for Ya Ya, but that's not a big deal. I love this album! Word is it will be remastered and remixed this year so I'll be getting my copy. I love all the remasters so far. :)

This album has little filler....and what is filler is so mercifully short that it doesn't affect the listening experience much.....I have no idea why people like Mind Games, as this collection of songs is very creative and well formed, while MG was just rather dull to me...

*******The thing is, John's music and Paul's music is great in its way. And where Paul is overly-accessible John's is much more non-accessible. Style, really.

Oh, I LOVE Mind Games. Maybe because it sort of grew on me longer, but I still listen to it. I only dislike one track on there, and then there's that pointless "Nutopian Bull-sh*t Anthem"

WALLS AND BRIDGES is the third best Lennon album, right after PLASTIC ONO BAND and IMAGINE. It's got some great songs on it, and a variety - love songs, rockers, an instrumental. Also contains John's then - #1 hit, "Whatever Gets You Thru the night".
-
Agree with Runforyourlife.
Mind Games and Walls And Bridges are my favourite albums of John.
In every album I listen to I find two or three songs I don't like but I always listen to a whole abum and so I can say if I like it or not.
