Yellow Sub Lp Songs Were?
« on: November 02, 2005, 02:26:02 PM »

I think that most of the songs on Yellow Sub were over looked due to the instrumental tracks on the Lp which for most fans made it a toss away (wait hold on now) compared to their other LPs! Bulldog is a fantastic song that never got it's glory! It should have been a single, but they were pushing the whole "Yellow Sub" concept at the time! If they would have kept those songs and put them out on a non-soundtrack lp it would have been stunning!!!!!!!!!

^ I don't know about "pushing the Yellow Sub concept." They weren't very interested in it at all, and knocked this song out for the movie. There's a few threads where its praise has been sung.
Can't see it as a single myself (but if Ballad of J & Y was a hit, maybe anything they did could.).
I can't stand Its Only A Northern Song.

In the cartoon, the soundtrack of Sir George's works so well. The songs are good. IOANS is great, IMO.

Seems to me the younger generation just doesn't want to hear the instrumentals but us older folks enjoy them!  ;D

Well the "instrumentals" would have been the soundtrack for the cartoon I guess which would explain their style?

I like side 2. It's written by George Martin, and I dig that MUCHLY.

Highlights:
Pepperland
Sea of Time (that section when the flutes and the vibes and harp all come in at 1:44 never fails to elicit a huge grin from yours truly.)
Sea Of Monsters (those pizz. strings SLAY me, especially at 2:22. That's a phenomenal piece of music.)
March Of The Meanies
Pepperland Laid Waste
Yellow Submarine In Pepperland

The cartoon needed an instrumental track. It's fine. I think Sir George deserves to have that slice of the album. He was the fifth Beatle. Listen again; Sir Martin's soundtrack is good.
