best Beatles songs done by other people?
« on: October 08, 2005, 12:11:45 AM »

yea, i know, this is any oxymoron, but i think that some bands do beatles songs as good if not better then the original versions. if i could choose any band that has done their songs, beatles or solo, i would have to say U2. Their Helter Skelter is actually pretty well done, and they also extended on john's God with...get this, God Part II (whoa, the title guy is a genius ;D ) but seriously, even when they screwed up on Sgt peppers for Live 8 with mr. Paul, they still sounded pretty good.

who do u think has done beatles songs (or solo) the best, or worse as the case may be.

I don't know if it counts, but I loved that acoustic cover of Maybe I'm Amazed by Jem. I also like-

In My Life- Judy Collins
Let It Be- Joan Baez
Across the Universe- Rufus Wainwright

Do you know the version Joe Cocker did of With A Little Help From My Friends in 1968 with two of the future guys of Led Zeppelin?  ;D

The worst is the version Paul did of Love Me Do with Please Please Me (horrible), I think it was Please Love Me. :B

Johnny Cash's version of In My Life is kind of cool... I do really miss the piano solo though.

They didn't.
They did "P.S. I love you" and "Love me do" but they didn't play that together, don't you know it?

Paul sang a mix of both on a live single called "P.S. Love me do".
I am surprised you don't know that... unless you are pulling my leg.. or both.

OK, well, I like Ms. Bassey's cover of Something. Like juniorsfarm said, it's all about opinion! Anyway, the Crosby, Stills and Nash version of Blackbird on the Allies live album is good, as well as the studio version of it on the CNS 4 CD box set I've got, which might be deleted now.
