Let It Be is a GREAT rock documentary showing the Beatles creating, arguing, jamming & rocking on the rooftop near the end proving they were a solid rock & roll band who could have toured back in 69 & possibly played Woodstock at the timedespite the personal & professionl tensions between John & Paul!!!

Let It Be is a great Beatles movie which is much better than Help & MMT even though it's mostly dismissed & highly underrated by Beatles fans because it shows the turmoil inside the band which is ridiculous despite showing them creating, arguing, jamming & rocking on the rooftop which is why the Beatles are a legendary rock band.

As I said before, I DON'T dislike this movie, I simply don't enjoy it! The ONLY reason I don't enjoy it is because after a while the whole bad atmosphere, which pervades throughout the sessions, affects me as well! It's like sitting down for a family meal after your parents have just had a huge row - the food is still tastes as nice as ever, but you can't wait to leave the table!

I watched this film very recently - the first 30 or so minutes (filmed between 2nd and 15 January 1969) is spent watching 4 (5, if you include Yoko) miserable faces stuck in a huge, cold film studio, playing rock and roll badly... it's pretty excrutiating! There was no magic. It was only after they moved the sessions to Apple studios on 22nd January, and drafted in Billy Preston that things livened up.

For me, the only truly redeeming moment is the rooftop concert... at least John and Paul look as if they're enjoying it!

True, the film shows the band disintergrating, but that's what makes it such complulsive viewing, and I do not underestimate its importance. But, as I've said before, it's depressing simply because the Beatles themselves are depressing.

I don't agree, it's not better than MMT or Help. It can't be compared, Let it be is a documentary, and MMT+Help are comedies.

[quote by=Wayne_L. link=Blah.pl?b=films,m=1078528563,s=0 date=1078528563]I think the Beatles classic rockumentary Let It Be is great & highly underrated for some reason even though some fans don't like it because it shows the breakup of the band but I think LIB showcases the Fab 4 at their finest creating, arguing, jamming & rocking on the rooftop near the end which proves they were a solid rock & roll band at the time despite personal & professional disagreements between John & Paul who could have toured back in 69 with the possibility of playing Woodstock.

I hope I'm not picking at a dry bone here, but......when is the Let It Be DVD going to be released?  I was under the impression it would coincide with the release of Let It Be Naked, which it didn't.  So what gives?

Here's what I wrote about Let It Be, in another thread. It seems appropriate here too! The word is that Let It Be is coming this year.

I hope that LET IT BE contains lots of extra goodies. Maybe a 2-DVD set, with the commercially released 1970 movie on one, and lots of extras on the other. I'm thinking of the complete rooftop concert, for a start!

Since it hasn't been commercially available for so long, many fans are likely to be disappointed. I think the film is a bit of a drag. Paul seems to feature far too much: he might not grab more time, but his seems to be "quality time", if you follow what I mean. That, of course, is not Paul's fault ... the blame lies with the editors/director. Bootlegs show that there was much group discussion about many issues. The flavor of these discussions seems quite wrong in the film.
But whatever is done, Apple will screw it up [say I, hoping that I'm wrong].

this is the only Beatle movie that i can't seem to get around my town i know you can get it on the net. If they release it extras would be great seeing as anything unseen of the beatles is great and gives you a new vib at least it does for me.

I saw Let It Be for the first time about 12/15 years ago, it's better than AHDN & Help personally speaking, the Beatles as a solid rock & roll band, despite the personal & professional tension between John & Paul!

In regard to the question of when it will be released, I thought it would have been 1/30/2009, since that is the 40th anniversary,
but no such luck. I read somewhere that Paul, Ringo and possibly Yoko and Olivia are afraid that some of the footage will tarnish their reputation among the fans, and/or diminish their fanbase.

Would it be worth the money to buy one of the unauthorized copies off Amazon.com or any other site?

Look on YouTube for "Beatles" and "Discontent."  There's a lot of B-Roll and unused footage out there of them screwing around, which is available from certain shops as Beatles Winter of Discontent.  Some of it's better than what got put in the film.
My favorite part of the film:  Paul doing the operatic Besame Mucho (astounding voice) and John lighting up while he does.  Lovely moment -- very warm.
I saw it right the way through about a year ago for the first time in ... 20 years?  I'm with The End -- it's just not pleasant, and not good.  The rooftop thing is fun of course, but the feel of it is lousy.  Fans who've never seen it, though -- I understand completely why you'd want to, and why you'd like it first time through.  It's the Beatles.
