A day in the life
« on: July 13, 2004, 06:15:40 PM »

i was wondering about the song a day in the life. At the end of the song the beatles blabber things over and over again. What are they saying and what does it mean, if anybody knows, ive never known and ive been curious for a while now.

I discovered a great link on here that explains all things like that. Can't remember what forum it was on but it was called Steves Beatle page. Google search?

Someone round here will know.

I don't know the exact answer, but here you go:

Steve's entry for A day in the life (I have it bookmarked)

There is a hell of a lot of speculation regarding this - the truth is, is pretty much indecipherable and this has lead to a huge amount of speculation. One school of thought has it that "well you f*ck supermen" is what is said!

It's just a jumble of words really, and no-one will ever truly understand them!

Anyway, here's the link to the "What Goes On" site which is referred to on the "Steve's Beatles Page" website.

I hear "Never could be any other way" over and over again. Probably just me though.

i read somewhere that if u play that segment backwards it sounds like "will he come back as superman?" which was another one of the paul is dead clues, referencing to something he said or got a note of saying f*ck superman...something like that.

It's gibberish.  Enough so that it sounds like different things to different people, proving it's just gibberish.

Kinda cool gibberish tho.

Which bit are we on about? It's just that on one site and I think I've read in 'revolution in the head' it says that it is a live radio broadcast of King Lear that got recorded for 'fun'.
Is this the gibberish we're talking about?

No.  That's Walrus.

On the Pepper album (but originally not in the US) there was a snip of noise and 'talking' that was in the runout groove, causing it to loop endlessly (unless your turntable's automatic thingie lifted the arm).

No, what you're referring to is the end of I Am The Walrus - a broadcast of King Lear which John Lennon mixed into the track live. You can listen to the clip here:

http://www.geocities.com/the_end_gb/dmforum/walrus.htm

What we were actually talking about was the VERY end of the Sgt Pepper album - after the final chord of A Day In The Life fades to an end, you hear a very high-pitched whistle (especially for dogs!), then there is a few seconds of Beatle 'gibberish' which, when played on the LP (vinyl) is repeated over and over forever!

If I was going to try to put the gibberish into words, it would come out "of the work, never to see annie"  Thats what it sounded like to me.

I heard "Never to speak any other way" I dono though. That high pitched squeal is not cool! I played it in the car cause I wanted to show my friends that end bit, and I played it and the squeal is unbearable.

When I listened to it on my CD player, my eyes went back and forth like one person was talking on the left side and another on the right side.. weird.
