Not sure why anybody would want the 62' Star Club stuff again. The sound is absoluty horrid. Unlistenable for me.

I'm not waiting for The Star Club stuff either. It has an historical importance, but thats about it.

But in 1977 we had no internet or bootleg CDs.  The release of Live! at the Star Club was a big event and our first chance to hear the Pre-fab Four.  I couldn't resist purchasing the double LP!  Sure, it was recorded on a home tape recorder, but we didn't care.  This was a major event back then.

Right, Kev.  There's always the secondary market.

The Beatles Complete BBC Sessions 9 Disc Box Set was released in 1993 by Great Dane, an Italian label.  I bought this set when it was released.  It has most of The Beatles BBC recordings.  My sister bought me Live At The BBC for my birthday in 1994.  I recently bought the remastered version.  There's a noticeable improvement in the audio quality of the 1994 release over the 1993 Great Dane discs.  The 2013 remastered set's audio is slightly improved over the 1994 release.

But there are still a lot of recordings on the Great Dane set which haven't been put out by EMI.  Here's the track listing:

THE BEATLES, COMPLETE BBC SESSIONS
GREAT DANE RECORDS (GDR-9326/9), 9 CD BX 1994

Of course it was. Still it doesn't mean that the quality or our demand for quality is up to modern standards. I don't believe that remastering can make the album much better than it is.

It goes back a few years, Kev.  We could download the discs in the Bootlegs forum:  http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/index.php?topic=3586.0

Unfortunately the links are no longer active.

I could check if I can make them alive again. Next week. Sorry, I'm pretty busy this week.

But there was something about the "vibe" of that home tape recording that added something special to the sound of the Star Club LP, Cor.  It was as though we were looking back in time when The Beatles were still in black leather and rough around the edges.  Perhaps, even if those tapes could be remastered, it's best that the album stay just the way it is.

That would be good, Cor.  There's a resurgence of interest in the BBC recordings with these current BBC CDs.

One thing is for sure, we can never rule out that we won't get something new.  According to Kevin Howlett, the source tapes for the On Air set are NOT the same as those used for either the Great Dane set or the Purple Chick Unsurpassed Broadcasts set.  "Things We Said Today" no longer has Brian Matthew's intro spoken over the start and there's one or two bits that I've never heard at all.

It keeps us interested (and poor, lol)!

The Beatles were very prolific in their BBC performances.  Brian Epstein made sure of that.  So there is much material which can be digitally remastered and released.  And I believe there will be a market for this well into the future.

The Beatles themselves didn't think they had much of a future in 1964...

Ringo Starr opening hairsalon, only Ringo would do that!!

Boy, were they ever wrong!!

That was the life of a "Beat" group, 3 years and then back to the clubs or split, hopefully with a few bob in the bank.

It's hard now to go back to, say, 1963 and forget about breaking the U.S., the films, Revolver and Pepper and everything else that followed and just see it as it was then.  It all seems so obvious now, their music is streets ahead of whatever else was going on but I guess then, they were just a group, without all the heavy importance we put on them now.

There's deffo gonna be volume 3.  It's tempting to make one up yourself, then to see if you can stretch the idea to volume 4!  :)  I think that "Twist and Shout" was recorded over 10 times for the Beeb.  Then there's the "specials" that were made by the BBC, such as "The Beatles Abroad"....let's just hope that it comes out sooner than volume 2 did after volume 1!!!

I don't agree that The Beatles were 'streets ahead of whatever else was going on' in the 60s.
Is 'Day Tripper' streets ahead of 'Like A Rolling Stone'?
'Revolver' streets ahead of 'Pet Sounds'?
'Sgt. Pepper's' streets ahead of 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'?

However, I do think that The Beatles and the 60s are streets ahead (no, light years ahead) of all the decades that followed.....though not the 50s.

Got this for Christmas and finally got a crack at it today. I just grabbed one of the CD's and threw it in the car player on my way to work and it happened to be Disc 2. Not impressed so far. Just crappier versions of old popular tunes. I'm digging the Lennon interview, but i'm only partially through it so far. I'm pretty sure i'll enjoy the other stuff better then this disc.

I wanted to like this as much as the first one but I still like the first one best. When I heard the first one I was totally blown away but maybe it was just the fact that I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know a thing about the BBC recordings then. I borrowed it from the library and fell in love with it. I bought the remastered discs so now I'm all set.

I agree.  The first one is my preference. Lots of covers I'd never heard them do before (except maybe on the Star Club record which hardly counts). And there were some terrific performances.

Most of the stuff on the second were done in the studio and have definitive versions that these don't add much too.

Is there only the two discs? I thought there was 3 for some reason. Oh well. I didnt find anything special enough for revisiting this one. I prefer the first volume also.

That would be good, Cor.  There's a resurgence of interest in the BBC recordings with these current BBC CDs.

Uploaded all in the bootleg section.
