Title: Washinton DC stage recreation
Post by: Chris62 on April 04, 2012, 11:15:41 PM
Hello fellow Beatle Maniacs,

Just a quick post to show off my new piece "Ringo Starr's Drum Riser" which is a virtual recreation of his drum riser as it looked after their first concert at the Washington Coliseum on February 11 1964.

Some background info:

It took about a year to complete and among the images utilized are a high resolution photograph of Ringo's drum head and the actual set list written by Lennon. I also used high resolution images of a Ludwig OPB texture, and a vintage Vox basket weave for the amps. The button next to the BEA bag was one of two novelty items that were for sale at the show and it said "I Love Beetles" - Beatles of course being misspelled.

Its' somewhat difficult to tell from this preview, but it's highly detailed and you can read all the text present in the scene such as the set list, logos on the headstocks, and the words "bass drum" on the Remo head.

Thanks for reading.

Either do I.

Chris, here's a recreation of the 20 inch Sullivan head made for me by Tom Johnson, a graphic artist in Atlanta, in 2005.  He painted the letters by hand as on the original.  He used an old Remo Weather King head with a period-correct decal.  The hoop is from an old Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl set...
