George's father on the White Star Line
« on: February 26, 2009, 07:15:37 AM »

Does anyone know or have a link to a page that have details about Harold's job on the White Star Line? The name of the ship he worked on and the time period?

I'm doing a bit of research for fun :)

I thought it would be funny to find out if he was on a ship that docked in Denmark, but I don't think any of those big cruise ships did :)

Here's the story: My granddad was born in 1927, and his dad (unknown) was supposedly a seaman or a soldier and just a one night stand!

Not that there's any chance Harold was the father of my grandfather, but I thought it was funny to do some research so I could tell people that I MIGHT be related to George ;D Haha, call me crazy  :P They look a tiny bit alike! teehee...

Thanks pc, that's exactly the kind of link I was looking for. I wish there was more info about the specific ships he sailed with... And Yes the White Star Line had the Titanic.

Thanks a lot. I guess I'm not as talented at searching the net! I checked out the list as well and the 1926 routes rules out any relation with my granddad. Boohoo  :P

But I still think it's interesting to dig up history like that. I'm mapping out my own family tree at the moment, so my grandpa is a dead end.

Y'all must have known I'd find this thread at some point and drag it up.  ;)

Grrrrr. . . almost none of the links posted in this discussion are still live and, if I recall correctly, pc31 tragically passed away a few years ago. ( :'( )I was wondering whether the above list comprised the assignments George's father had. I'll have to try to track down this information.

John's father was a steward, too, for Cunard (on the Queen Mary), I've read. The ocean liner community had no knowledge of that when I told them. Perhaps not too many Beatles fans among that groups. I haven't really been able to learn anything about his assignments, either, although up until now I haven't really had the time for any research.

So: Time to check out some of these Beatle–ocean liner topics.

No, unfortunately, I never have. There's a Titanic group that has brunch there once a month, but I've never been able to join.

Interesting; do you care to share any details? A friend of mine—we've since lost touch—used to be the curator there, and he was convinced it was haunted. He was not the type to joke around about this or take it lightly.

There was a documentary about the Ghosts of St. Mary a while back.  If I can find a link for it, I'll post it.  I think they heard voices or singing inside the ship.

I don't know if I believe in ghosts or not but I get scared very easily at night in a dark room with no one else around, especially in a basement at night.  But, no, I won't go in the basement at all at night.

I believe I saw that documentary. If I recall correctly, the supernatural occurrences began after the Queen Mary struck the Curacoa, resulting in the deaths of about 300.
