That's OK, Penny Lane.  We were glued to the TV set for a whole hour in those days.  We never saw anything like that before.  I remember reading that each time the transporter was used, the teleportation effect cost the studio two thousand dollars due to the time it took for the artists to create the effect.

I remember laughing at the Gorn throughout that episode when it first aired.  I couldn't believe Captain Kirk had so much trouble fighting him!

Wow, two thousand dollars is a lot of money.  To be fair, though, some of the "cheesiness" is what gives the show its charm.  That and the usually likeable personalities of the main cast. :)

Also, apparently lots of ladies have crushes on Mr. Spock and they think he's very sexy.  I honestly had no idea!

I saw the movie yesterday and had mixed feelings about it.  Basically, I think people will like it as an action film, but it had a really different feel from the original TV show.  It just wasn't as charming or cerebral, IMO.  And to sound even more like a lame stick in the mud, I found myself missing the original actors from the TV show; but hey, at least Leonard Nimoy showed up. :P

LOL!!  Very funny redshirt montage.  It's so true.

My hubby and I were talking about what color shirts we'd be (we're dorks, I admit it), and I said I'd like to be anything but a redshirt...  I don't want to die yet! ;D

This would have been my recommendation as well. I'm so sorry you didn't like it, PL. I thought it was wonderful! (In fact, I had to see it twice....)

The original Spock or the new one? I like them both. I've always been a Spock gal. Mom, sisters-- we're all about the ears. (It must explain my fascination with George the rabbit...)

I thought the movie was superb. The alternative history line totally worked for me. I thought the writers were true to the original characters while re-imagining them realistically for this new background. Lots of great humor too, which was one of the things I really enjoyed about the original show. And Mr. Spock (Spock prime) was wonderful. I love that man! We owe him so much-- the neck pinch, the Vulcan salute, the eyebrow raise. All the key Vulcan things (except perhaps pon farr) were developed by Nimoy. They were really creative that first season. Vulcans were incredibly cool, thanks to Nimoy-- something I think Star Trek forgot for a while, but the movie remembers it bigtime.

Yay, new franchise! I'm a fan.

I've always been more of Warsy (if thats the word) fan than a Trekkie, but the new movie was awesome i hope they continue it on from there
"Warsy" works for me! I like both, but ST is nearer to my heart. I certainly hope they continue the movies. Heck, I'll settle for a weekly show. I'm very happy! *bounces*

Don't be sorry.  :)  A lot of people seem to enjoy the movie so I think I'm the odd person out.  Perhaps I should give it a second chance and rent it when it comes out on video.

I meant both.  For some reason I had you pegged as a Spock gal in my head. :P

Thanks for the info Penny Lane. Thanks Alexis for the comment on the movie referencing the original series. That's the only one I like. I laugh at the intros on the bridge when Kirk says Spock, Bones, and you the other guy, to the transporter room. We need to check out what's going on down on this planet.  :)

Hmm...  No silver bikinis that I can recall, but there was a green alien girl in her underwear!

So that's what they're named?  I could've sworn they were called "Yet another excuse for William Shatner to show off his shirtless torso."

Well, Captain Kirk's tunic was cut and torn off during the fight in the arena.

I hope you know I was just kidding around, HG...   ;)  I have a friend who commented (or complained?) about how often he likes to have his shirt taken off or torn/cut up so I just thought it was amusing to poke fun at that.

I've also seen this:

Just plain silliness, that's all. ;)

I knew that, Penny Lane.  I was just doing my best deadpan Spock impersonation in my posts.  I'm happy to see another Star Trek TOS fan here.
