Congratulations to you as well!! ;)

You are right: neither Spain, nor Nederland won the World Cup. So, this next Sunday another page of the football history will be written down...

Best for all!! ;)

I see the psychic octopus got the result correct again!

BBC News - German 'psychic' octopus predicts victory for Spain

Do you think I could get him to choose my lotto numbers this week?   ha2ha

The same :) ... the final proves that well played football and Europe has al-ready won this World Cup, whoever won ...

Well done Spain. Looking forward to the final. :) It's Torres V Kuyt for me. heheh

For me it's more Xavi (my MVP of this World Cup) vs Sneijder and/or Villa vs Robben ... ;)

So, what's these messages in the Spanish media all about? That Holland is not much more than Sneijder, Robben and an agressive midfielder called Van Bommel? That Holland reaching the final was a matter of pure luck? That Spain is virtually world champion already? That Spain had rather played the final against a "real" team like Brazil?

Self confidence is one thing. Plain arrogance is another.

I agree.
Actually, of the two teams in the final, I have thought that the Netherlands have looked the best of the two throughout the tournament, not Spain.
To be honest, after watching the group stage I didn't expect either of these teams to reach the final - I thought it might be Germany, or Argentina, or Brazil.
The Netherlands were probably 4th on my list of likely winners.
Until the match against Germany, Spain haven't looked anything special at all to me. Yes, they're definitely in the top ten teams (unlike England!!  roll:)  ) but I don't think they have any cause to be arrogant about playing against the Netherlands.

But having said that, I'm pleased that two teams are in the final who haven't won the World Cup before. And both teams have done really well to get to the final, especially considering that Germany, Argentina and Brazil were all playing so well in the early stages of the tournament.

I'm totally neutral when it comes to these two teams so I just hope it's a great match on Sunday. Good luck to all you Spain and Netherlands supporters.

If you look at their results in the last few years, this is truely a "clash of the titans" though.

- Spain and The Netherlands are the only two countries that won all their WC qualification matches.
- Since 2007, Spain has won no less than 50 of their 55 matches and they've lost just two.
- The Netherlands won their last ten matches and haven't lost a single match since September 2008.

Paul the octopus got 2 of the 6 matches he predicted for Euro 2008 wrong, including the final.

Mani the parakeet on the other hand had all quarter and semi finals of this tournament right and he predicted that The Netherlands will win:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/video/2010/07/08/VI2010070803784.html

So it's not just Spain vs. The Netherlands this Sunday, it's also the octopus vs. the parakeet.

:)

I've been a football fan my whole life, but I've never been nearly as nervous for a match as I am today. Until this week, the concept of The Netherlands in a World Cup final was something from a long time ago, from before I was even born. And my dad to this day still changes the channel whenever footage from the 1974 and 1978 finals comes on. So this is truely a historical day for Dutch football. We can erase the "traumas" from 32 and 36 years ago. The generation Sneijder-Robben-Van Persie can push the legendary Cruijff-Van Hanegem-Neeskens and Van Basten-Gullit-Rijkaard generations to the background forgood.

I'll be a nervous wreck during the match today.

Well done Spain!

I thought before the match that the Netherlands would win it, but Spain did brilliantly in the final.

Congratulations to all the Spanish fans.

Spain played better, if a bit. They seemed to be more active and better in offence.
Congratulations Spain!
The Netherlands has been really great the whole World Cup. Congratulations too!  :)
