to sum up the beatles group w/ just one of their songs, which one would you pick? the one that you feel shows them the best musically, and just is an overall representation of them and their music. i have to choose "let it be", not only cuz it's one of their last songs as a group but i just feel like it really has alot of their musical talent in the song and it really reminds me of them whenever i hear their name. what ones would u guys pick?

excellent choice.  I think I would go with either Strawberry Fields Forever or I've Got a Feeling.  I think those represent their music well.

I was tempted to say Let It Be too, because not only is it about the Beatles breaking up, but it has some really good stuff from Harrison and McCartney.

However, I think the Golden Slumbers Suite REALLY shows off everyone at their best.  Paul's voice on Golden Slumbers is beyond beautiful, and the instrumentation behind really captures the heart.

The Beatles had some REALLY strong harmonies going on during Carry That Weight, and I loved the trumpet sound from the orchestra playing.

The End had Ringo's only drum solo during the Beatles-days, and had that very groovy guitar battle between Paul, George, and John, which showed how these three could really rock on guitar.  Let's also not forget, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Sounds like the Beatles philosophy... at least I would hope that's their philosophy  :P.  And in those great chords at the end, and it is (to me anyway) their real swan song, not Let It Be.

And believe me, it pains me to say that because LIB is my favorite Beatles songs and got me into listening to them more.  ;D

All You Need is Love

And at the end they even throw in a little She Loves You. ;) It's a perfect song. In every way. Isn't it all they ever preached?

All You Need is Love. Let it be wouldn't be too bad either, but I'd go with All You Need Is Love

All You Need Is Love.

In My Life would be great if you had the anthology video montage along with it. Always brings a tear to my eye that.

It's difficult. If we llok for a song that sums up Beatlemania that's "She loves you" for me, but for example, Starwberry Fields sums up psychedelia or "all you need is love" sums up the summer o flove. I think there is a song for each period.

Let's count the votes:

Let It Be - 1
Golden Slumbers Suite - 2
All You Need Is Love - 3
Hold Me Tight - 1
Hey Jude - 1
She Loves You - 1
Strawberry Fields Forever - 1
I've Got a Feeling - 1

I didn't count Sadie because there wasn't just one specifically chosen.

I'm curious as to why herecomesthesun feels that I've Got a Feeling would be the best song to represent the Beatles musically and presentation-wise.  I do not see it.

I dont know.

Choosing an early one could sum up their young aims and principles.
Someone mentioned She Loves you..which is perfect for Beatlemania.

But when they retired to the studio..I think songs like Penny-Lane or Strawberry fields would best sum up their counter-culture experimental focus.

I would choose something that was obvious, commercial (in any sense) and well known...cos..its the Beatles.

Also something like the The Word.
It was about revolution, changing the world and peoples ideals. I just think this song shows change happening..a perfect form of transformation captured on Vinyl.

My vote also goes out to AYNIL. It became a huge philosophy, not just for The Beatles but for a lot of the world.

A Day In The Life - the ultimate Lennon/McCartney collaboration, and it sums up how The Beatles could do 'catchy' and 'mind-blowing art' at the same time.
