Title: The Beatles vs. Little Richard - Long Tall Sally
Post by: LennonStarrFan on April 27, 2010, 07:06:59 PM
I vote for The Beatles' cover. Paul's vocals are just as great as Little Richard's. As well, Ringo has more charisma, stage presence, and enthusiams on stage than the drummer for Little Richard.

Hmm, as much as I love the Beatles I think I prefer Little Richard's version.

I definitely prefer Little Richard's version. Paul's is screamier, but Richard's has more character, I think. I also dislike that Paul "cleaned up" the lyrics, as I detailed in the Misheard Lyrics thread. Ringo's drumming is definitely superior, but I don't think it carries the song enough to make up for the inferiority (in my opinion) of the rest of the Beatles' version.

I've never been a huge fan of Little Richard's voice, but I choose his version. The Beatles do a really good job trying to copy him here, but Little Richard's version is simply the real thing.

(About the drummers: Ringo was part of the band, mr. Penniman's drummer was a hired backup musician. He wasn't supposed to stand out and be charismatic even if he wanted to.)
