Title: Ringo's Early Cars
Post by: KelMar on September 28, 2014, 07:08:36 PM
I know the first picture is the Standard Vanguard that Ringo bought from Johnny Hutchinson in 1959. Is that also the car in the second picture?

No, it's not. Look at the windows in the back that are different. I know nothing about cars though, but I do know Ringo had a Zephyr Zodiac in the early days.

Cor's right.  That's Ringo with his black and white Standard Vanguard Phase Ia sedan with its small oval rear window.  The other car is an estate/station wagon.

I think Ringo's second car was the Ford Zephyr Zodiac.  He hit a dog and damaged the front while driving home after dropping George off to pick up his Ford Anglia.  Here's the bill for the repairs...

Cripes. £67 was a fair whack back in those days.

I'm sure it was, Moog.

The car being pushed is a Ford Squire estate car.

Right! LOL He didn't even have his driver's license yet, let alone insurance. He didn't sweat the small stuff, I guess!

I feel better having this issue all straightened out. :)

I also have this picture of Ringo in the Ford Squire. He's sitting in it like he owns it but I guess he really didn't. The picture is from Ringo's e-book Photograph. I've seen it several places on the Internet but I haven't seen any caption that tells who owned the car.

The bloke in the first picture you posted who couldn't afford gas owned the Squire, Kelley.  Mystery solved.   ;)

Here's George's 1955 Ford Anglia...

Ringo also owned this '57 Chevrolet Bel Air that was customized for him by George Barris (creator of the original Batmobile, The Monkee Mobile, and many others). He owned it sometime during the late '70s and into the '80s if I'm not mistaken. Click on the photo to enlarge it.
