This is a big one. At 94 he had a good innings as we say here in Oz. Seemed to be responsible for half the songs I heard as a kid.
RIP Burt (even if you were a bit mean to Cilla)

Was very sad to hear this. :'( RIP.

One of the worlds greatest songwriters. RIP Burt.

Hal David and Burt Bacharach...now both are gone.
Written in 1965, this song is truer today than it ever was...

I hadn't realized that was one of Bacharach's songs. That video was so beautiful, Barry; I started to get choked up. And I agree—the message is so timely. I can barely stand to read the news these days.

I got choked up too, Kathy. Songs with lyrics by Hal David and music by Burt Bacharach are numerous and unforgettable. Cheer up and watch this movie moment...

I really enjoyed the Elvis Costello-Bacharach collaboration Painted From Memory. Lots of good songs on it. I assume it was mainly Costello doing the lyrics and Burt the music.

...especially that lyric...
What do you get when you fall in love?
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
So for at least until tomorrow
I'll never fall in love again
Don't you know that I'll never fall in love again

Très bon, zipp!
This is the first time I've heard it. It shows how popular David and Bacharach's songs were on release.

Written in 1965, this song is truer today than it ever was...
I'm scooting a bit off topic here because this song was not authored by Bacharach and Hal David, but in my opinion it, too, is truer than it ever was. (I'm thinking only of the situation in the States. I really can't speak for any other countries.)

Burt Bacharach leaves behind an absolutely incredible body of work as his legacy! So much of my childhood's soundtrack is here in this thread. Baby It's You is at the top of the list for me and it's pretty close to the top of my all-time favorite song list. The first time I heard it was in 1969 when I was watching TV with my big brother and Smith performed it. It made a big impression on me because my brother went tearing out of the den to call his friend Flip and make sure he was watching it. I think they really dug Gayle McCormick. ;)

Then, about a year later, I heard another version. The Carpenters had three Bacharach compositions on their Close to You album and this was one of them.

My mom played this album a lot but I was the one who finally wore it out and had to replace it a few years ago.

Yes, but was he ever a Psychic Friend? ;) (I'm joking, of course; I mean no disrespect to Bacharach at all. I greatly admire him.)
