Title: She's Leaving Home
Post by: Mairi on June 20, 2006, 03:42:52 PM
I think this is a very well-written song. The harps and the strings make it a little sappy, but it's amazing that Paul was able to write this song just from a little news item that he read in the paper. And later it turns out that the girl felt exactly like that. (A Hard Day's Write).

A truly good songwriter is proven.

I recognise it as a great piece of songwriting - but I can't really listen to it anymore. Then again I'm a bit flat on the whole Pepper thing at the moment.
But its just a phase I'm going through, and I'll get better.

Isn't the mono 30 seconds shorter or something?

"She's Leaving Home"  The stereo version is slower than the mono version which sounds much faster.

I'm praying for the remasters to have one disc of remixed tracks and another with the original mono versions.

I typically don't go for Mono versions, but the Sgt. Pepper Mono version, I can't recommend highly enough.

The original monos are the definitive articles.

It allways remids me of a sequel to Elanor Rigby. We as fans of rock songs had to take a deep breath when first hearing this song. It was legitimate non-pop music which took a little growing up to appreciate.

I love this song. Some have said it's sappy or whatever but the Mac/Len point/counter point is wonderful. And not may could go into Mr. Kite after that song. Brilliant.

One of my all time favourites.
I love Mccartney's voice - his very English almost impersonated voice shows a stern but meaningful narration. The lyrics are fantastic, and Lennon's parts again show that perfect partnership.
Me and my mate were listening to All My Loving, so he could get that end Mccartney vocal part nailed, and after that finished, his laptop selected She's Leaving Home. We both turned off our amps and just listened :)

I love the song also. Its one of Pauls better songs lyrically speaking and the background vocals are killer.

I agree with JR about Sgt. Peppers in mono,,,,,,,its great.

Paul's little dramas were good with The Beatles.  They got silly later.

Can you explain yourself a little further please. I'm not sure i'm on the same page with you here.

I think perhaps Jim means Paul's 'story' songs such as She's Leaving Home and Rocky Raccoon.

The only silly one I can think of is "Maxwell", but I might be partial.

What the hell? How did I ever think that this made sense as a sentence?

Not having been around at the time of the original posting, I have to say I had no trouble understanding what you meant when I read it just a few minutes ago for the time. :)

I love this song, I don't think it's sappy but then I like Paul's "story" songs, even most of the supposedly "silly" ones I think often aren't so silly when you actually think about them.  :D

But in any case I think a lot of people, possibly particularly girls, can identify with the girl who left and why she left(which as it turns out he was pretty right about, shows a good ability to empathize on his part) and even the parents' reaction.

Woah, that's really cool :) I love stuff like this. It also shows how great John and Paul's voices were.

Cool, thanks for doing this! I never noticed Paul's lower harmony before, I love stuff like that.

It's funny how they sound a little out of tune in the chorus until it's double tracked.

I kind of always thought Paul's voice on the verse was a little lazy-slow-out-of-tune myself. But what do I know!

Hidden away for so many years in the vault at Abbey Road Studios was this film of The Beatles recording She's Leaving Home...

There's so much still in the Abbey Road- and EMI-archives hidden....
