As per our discussion here: http://dmbeatles.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-albums/m-1153138287/
Please compile a new Beatle album based on the solo material they released in 1970 - 14 tracks per album.
The best compilation will be burned onto to CD and sent to the winner as a sort of prize thing!
Remember - it's supposed to be a fun thing so no need to get heavy (flower)
John:
1970: Plastic Ono Band
Paul
1970: McCartney
George:
1970: All Things Must Pass
As ATMP was three discs, I suggest we take disc 1 only for 1970, 2 for 1971 and 3 for 1972.
Ringo:
1970: Sentimental Journey and Beaucoups Of Blues
-
I go for 14. Like the Revolver split: 1 for Ringo, 3 for George, and 5 each for Paul and John.
Side A:
1. Mother (John)
2. I'd Have You Anytime (George)
3. Every Night (Paul)
4. Remember (John)
5. $15 Draw (Ringo)
6. Wah Wah (George)
7. Man We Was Lonely (Paul)
Side B:
1. What Is Life (George)
2. Look At Me (John)
3. Momma Miss America (Paul)
4. Hold On (John)
5. That Would Be Something (Paul)
6. Maybe I'm Amazed (Paul)
7. Isolation (John)
-
This seems super fun... the choices came up John 3, Paul 4, George 6 and Ringo 1.
side a:
1. I dig love (George)
2. working class hero (John)
3. every night (Paul)
4. behind that locked door (George)
5. my sweet lord (George)
6. hot as sun/glasses (Paul)
7. junk (Paul)
side b:
1. look at me (John)
2. ballad of sir frankie crisp (George)
3. love (John)
4. awaiting on you all (George)
5. beware of darkness (George)
6. have i told you lately that i love you (Ringo)
7. man we was lonely (Paul)
-
I hate to mention it, but isn't John's work pretty depressing at that time? All kind of downer stuff.
Maybe he would have felt differently if the band hadn't split up.
I think those tracks work best as solo pieces - very powerful personal statements - and don't really represent The Beatles very well.
Just thinking out loud.
roll:)

Same problem I mentioned before. John's doom and gloom juxtaposed to Paul's incessant ebullience is jarring. Also, the Boys weren't really doing covers later on, so I don't think 'If Not For You' is much of a fit.
So far I like Mr. Mustard's picks best.

Thanks Klang... hope you like the album cover too ;)

I want MONO! No wait, that didn't sound right! icon_redface

Thanks for the comment, Klang.
I included "If Not For You", b/c it's one of the best tracks among any of the four LPs - especially in re: a Beatle-y sounding tune. Besides, everyone so far has included at least one track for Ringo and both Sentimental Journey and Beaucoups of Blues are all covers (BoB is essentially a covers LP b/c none of the songs on it were written by JPG or R).
It's a difficult task to compile a decent and cohesive "Beatles" LP from just their 1970 releases.

So true. I didn't even try.
:P
P.S. Groovy cover Mr. M.
