Title: Paul's Co Written Songs ?
Post by: on May 29, 2007, 09:52:10 PM
Was reading today that Paul felt spoilt when it came to Co Writing songs as he'd worked  with the best John Lennon.
And that it was difficult to work with anyone else ,basically as they did'nt come up to scratch compered to Lennon ,But i think he's written some good songs with other songwriters what do other people thingk ???
My personal favourite is  " Don't Let It Bring You Down " with Denny Laine from London Town.

Well... Macca wrote My Brave Face and other great songs from Flowers In The Dirt with Elvis Costello. I love those co-compositions. The Lovers That Never Were I guess it was also a McCartney-McManus collaboration.

Paul was mentioning the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder in that same article. I think Paul didn't want to say something mean about the co-operation he had with others and certainly, there are some nice examples of good work with others. His main purpose was to give another honour (for whatever reason) to John. And we mustn't forget these two almost grew up together and understood each other perfectly. How is it ever possible to have that replaced by anyone else. Surely Paul had to come out disappointed.

I think  " What's That You're Doing " with Stevie Wonder is good , not keen on the Jackson ones all though " Say Say Say " did sell mega .
Much prefer the Denny  and Linda ones and i like most of the Costello ones they really stand up, inparticular " That Day Is Done " and  " My Brave Face ".
How many post Beatle, Co: compositions has Paul written it's got to be over 30 ?

It must have been pretty hard for Macca to write with other people
after John. I've always prefered the Eric Stewart & Denny Laine compsitions
he wrote. He did some great ones with Costello (& costello is one of my
songwriting hero's). That Day is Done is quite a fantastic song.
Never liked the Jackson or steve wonder collabrations that much.
Ebony & Ivory is fine but not brilliant. What's that Your Doing is much better!
But i choose Eric Stewart's partnership personally.
