What do you think. A waste of a decade or did something good actually come out of it? The music scene wasn't much and the clothes were horrible! Anyone ever wear one of those lame Don Johnson blazers or two tone pants! The slasher flicks and teenaged angst movies were cool though. Oh, and U2 of course.
There were lots of up and coming groups that were a bit below the radar........cinema was in the doldrums though throughout the whole decade.......and worst of all..
Reagan/Bush.
There were great *songs*, but few artists put out consistently good product. So it was pick a hit here, grab a hit there, but it wasn't automatic for the superstars.
Anybody ever see a porno shot in the 80's? Yuck!!!
I'm guessing it had something to do with the hair?
lol, yeah. Monkey hair EVERYWHERE! Totally disgusting.
So, it's safe to say that both the real film industry AND the porno one were turning out garbage. :)
Yes, it would be safe to say that. It would not be safe however, to watch 80's porn with a light stomach.
I love Metallica, the Pixies, REM, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
1. AC/DC
2. Black Sabbath
3. Metallica
4. Traveling Wilburys
and I'll add Guns N Roses to that list ;)
Nintendo released their first videogame console in the 80s, I consider that important ;D
Loved the music.
The Cure was really popular in the 80s.
The old metallica was good. I don't like their newer stuff.
The Cure put out some fine records in the 80's and really early 90's. And Metallica's first three albums are the pinnacle of heavy metal.

First four albums.
I don't get ....And Justice For All.......One is good and so is Blackened.......the rest is bleh...
I'm glad i missed most of the 80's
I enjoyed the half that I lived through.....whenever something new would come out, it'd always seem really exciting....so sick of everything nowadays that's all the same....all of our commercials with the white backgrounds.....about cell phones and other dull nonsense...
Well, the 80's really weren't that bad! Some good music came out! AC/DC, The Cure, Chili Peppers, REM, U2, The Clash, Springsteen, Guns n Roses, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Lenny Kravitz, Ozzy, Prince, Van Halen.
I think the movies coming out now are not much better than those that came out in the 80's! Let's see I remember some good ones.
The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Superman 2, Stripes, E.T, Tootsie, Ghost Busters, Beverly Hills Cop, The Color Purple, Top Gun, Fatal Attraction, Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man, The Untouchables, and the best one Batman! I mean I know none of them is a Godfather or anything but I don't think they suck. It's all relative I guess. I can't say anything good about the clothes or hair though!!!!
Wasn't Scarface from the 80's?
And what about Ferris Buehler, Macca, was that 80's?
Was it? I'm not sure. Probably. Cool movie. Pacino is awesome.

Kill 'em All - 1983
Ride the Lightning - 1984
Master of Puppets - 1986

Metallica (Black Album) - 1991
That's five...

Yeah, St. Anger is the worst thing I've ever heard.
Granted, Black album was way better than ...And Justice for All, but all of the nonhits on it (more than half the album) is kind of corny....like "Of Wolf and Man" and all...They're still the greatest metal band of all time, and I got to see them in concert in Sacramento on the Load tour. Was a fantastic show.

Yeah, The Godfather isn't all that great in retrospect.....there's just been so many mob movies and t.v. shows since then that it really isn't all that interesting....I'm sure it was something great when it was first released though, and it's definitely directed well.

No. Fucking. Way. Black Sabbath is way better.
oh, four albums better than black? nope.
And yes, Black Sabbath is better.
I like Metallica better......I don't even consider Black Sabbath to be metal really.......not until the Dio years, anyway. Dio can sing better than Ozzy. True.

Ferris Bueller came out in 1986.

But the t.v. spinoff came out in the 90's.

And "The Godfather" is no "The Lord of the Rings" either.
Oh My God! I can't even answer that. Really.
No reason too. The Godfather doesn't even come close.

Now how could I have forgotten that!?
Well, even if you disagree with that, you have to admit that Return of the King is far better than Godfather III.
No reason too.
Oh yeah! Godfather three sucked big time. No argument there!!!
The Lord of the Rings is so epic that the Godfather can't touch it. There's no movie that can the Lord of the Rings in terms of the way it pulls on your emotional strings. I cry every time I watch any of the 3 movies at multiple points. It's just unavoidable.
Uh huh.
Yep. :) I think the Return of the King's 11 oscars see it my way as well.

Not to mention 17 for the entire series. ;)
Yeah, that's pretty damn impressive. Tolkiens work (colectively the entire history of Arda) is absolute genius. And Peter Jackson did a pretty good job of bringing The war of the ring to life on the screen. I can't see any movie ever being able to match the emotional content of the Lord of the Rings. Such a story doesn't exist.
Well, if you're going to go by the Oscars: The Godfather movies, as a group, recieved 28 Oscar nominations and nine wins, including the best-picture statue and best actor twice. Most of the Oscar nominations for Rings were for technical stuff anyway. Wow. So if the Godfather didn't win in such minor categories as best special effects or costumes big deal they won for the acting instead. Acting! who would think! No little midgets or monsters to dazzle the eye with and yet they still were nominated. But anyway it's all subjective. I'm not going to convince people who love Lord of the Rings about this and same goes for Godfather fans. We all have our own preferences in this area. At least we all agree that the Beatles were the greatest band ever!

Almost............Zep Fan...... ::)
Funny! Well there's always somebody who has to be different isn't there!!! Hmm, now lets see how many awards did the Beatles win..... ;D

http://abbeyrd.best.vwh.net/grammy.htm ;D
11 Grammys as a band! Along with three for the Anthology project. That's a total of 14 Grammys! I believe that ties them with U2 for most won by a band.
Hey and weren't they just awarded something at the Grammys this year? I didn't watch but I heard they did something. Jeez after all these years and they're still winning awards! Amazing.
No, I don't think they won anything. The Grammys had a tribute to them, that's all, I think
Oh ok. That makes sense! They should have a tribute to them every year!
It was a "tribute" for lack of a better word........Dave Matthews and some other guys performed a horrid, out of tune-sloppy version of "I Saw Her Standing There". Big disappointment.
I like the 80s. The 80s were hands down the best decade of my life so far, and there's some pretty great (new wave, punk rock and hardcore) music from the 80s.
The hair and clothes were horrible beyond words though.
ah i hate Metallica.......and i love all the other bands
I was never crazy about them either! I saw them in concert with Ozzy and thought my head would explode.

Heh, my ears were ringing for hours after the Metallica show that I watched.
With the exception of Lennons Murder :'(, $3.35 an hour minimum wage jobs >:(, Tickle down on you Reaganonomics >:( and alot of really lame ass politicians >:( the 1980s were ok :). We had musically, Springsteen, Clapton, U-2, SRV, REM, The Wilburys and Tesla To name a few 8). As far as the porn, did'nt any of you see anything with Ginger Lynn ;D(YUM!!!!) Christy canyon, or Nina Hartley in it ? There were no horse bushes on any of the three and with the exception of
Can't say I've ever seen anything with those girls in it. But the amateur stuff from the era is so gross, I can't believe the people in the video were able to do it without vomitting all over each other. I'm only 20, so too young to have seen concerts in the 80's, but they sure as hell are expensive now. Clapton tickets were 90 dollars this time around for the good seats. I didn't go unfortunately.
Yes, concerts are ridiculiously expensive now. But at the time i thought 10.00 to see The Who was alot. Last thought on porn, never watch the amatures it can be sick, its kinda like watching your neighbors. You know, the ones you would not want to see naked even on a bet? Always go for the "Name" headliners and at least you will know the girls will be hotties 8)
Yes, but the big names are so expensive. I just stay away from porn altogether these days.
And 10 dollars to see the Who is nothing. I'd gladly pay that. I'd pay 90 dollars to see Clapton too if I had somone to go 4 hours to Omaha with me tomorrow. No one wanted to go with me unfortunately. So I won't get to see him once again. *sigh*

LOL! I for one dig the retro-bush. Never understood all this baldness and the runway strips.
***thread officially went to sh!t***
Agreed!!! This thread did a head first right into the crapper. For the record i dont watch porn at all these days. Those were memories from my high school days and that was almost 20 years ago. I have Nothing against retro either, but have a preference for the "well manicured"
lol, well, to jump even farther down the crapper............ The big "horse bushes" are too, well, they're just too "monkey"ish. It's like watching 2 balding sasquatches going at it. I much prefer totally shaved, or shaved to just a thin strip. This also reminiscent of my high school days, which is only a couple years ago for me. It's something all high school boys do. I think when you're in junior high you main goal in life is to get some porn. Me and all my friends was. Horse bush........eeeeeewwww!

No hairy Breasts. Even i was'nt that twisted back then. ....LOL :D Two diffrent body parts were mentioned. "With the exception of maybe Christys breasts, all was real" Dont want people to think i watched hairy boobs :o
Hairy boobs. I can't imagine anything that could possibly be more of a turn off! Icky!
if you think the 80's was bad....the 90's? i feel sorry for anyone that had there youth music core shaped in the nineties. you live when you live, but the 90's were putrid. i honestly can't imagine too many people 20 years from now, whipping out their old 90's cd's and playing them. and i guess it goes without saying....but i'll say it anyway....Rap sucks
Oasis, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and the Smashing Pumpkins are all fantastic bands. The only band from the 80's I can even tolerate is U2.
Kyuss, Soundgarden, RATM, Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, and QOTSA are fucking awesome. And Nirvana is also pretty good.
