I enjoyed the thread for who should become the next US president so i thought it would be great to turn the political spotlight on the UK .
Think this coming election in the UK will be very interesting , not just because we have an unelected Prime Minister in Gordon Brown facing the polls , but we have a revitalised conservative party led by David Cameron chompping at the bit for power .
This election could happen anytime now although i think Gordon Brown may wait until June 2010 to call it .
Anyone no who these people are ? i know it's not quite Obama , but it matters to us Brits as we are in deep s.h.i.t. and have no money left to do much of anything  .
Who do you fancy for the PM job and who is best suited to lead us ?  :)

What do you brits think is the reason?:
a) This is simply an unavoidable consequence of the failed socieconomic framework of capitalism.
b) Too much socialism polluting the workings of the free market, we need more pure capitalism.
c) The political system results in only twits getting elected, it doesn't matter what the policy is, it's doomed to failure with these guys in charge.
d) Other.

[Hope it's OK this Yank responds in this thread, just wanting to learn a bit about what goes on beyond these shores (though of course it's not important to us, especially in TX  :o  ;) )These choices listed are limited by my understanding of the basic underpinnings of the main political arguments being made here in the States. Acknowledgement of my ignorance of what may be hugely important issues where you are is why there is choice "d"  :) ]

And George and Ringo,
I love them all!

Someone with a bit of honesty and shrewdness. I believe this PM Brown inherited the crap from Blair (And his PR glory days) and is not as verbally or socially equipped to get his point across, plus a host of unreliable and dis-loyal delegates have left his head above the trenches. The latest release of the Lockerbie bomber for trade in Libya scandal looks messy.
I'd like to see re-nationalisation of utilities and rail. Capitalism has had it's day...Cheers Maggie Thatcher for that. Tories, Labour...they both end up the same by the end of their terms.

Makes no difference to normal people who will still be struggling to pay to exist. Voter Apathy...Yep that's me.

I watched a programme on TV about the banking crisis alexis and they were saying even the bankers did'nt know what they were doing with all these high risk loans and hedge funds  vast amounts of money were been gambled at the flick of a switch or parcelled up into toxic bundles and sold on .
I think there was a failure of regulation and the UK Labour government did'nt step in sooner to call time on casino banking in the UK , Gordon Brown said on many occasions that boom and bust had come to an end in the UK , that as to be one of the biggest lie's ever ?
I was watching a report on California and they have run out of money and basic public services are not been met , think the UK will go the same way with massive future cuts in public services to pay off debt that and tax rises .
Don't think whoever is UK Prime Minister after the next election it's going to be easy, tuff decisions will have to be made to pay off our debt and balance the books it's a bloody mess i know that much >:(

Tony Blair was a good prime minister for Great Britain , it seems. He revived his Labour Party and led it to power after years of the Conservative rule. He called his party New Labour and changed it so much that it became more conservative than the Conservative Party itself, as politologists assert. It was very shrewd of him. However, Gordon Brown doesn`t have Blair`s edge and determination and self-confidence. He doesn`t seem to be very popular. That`s what the picture appears to be like from the non-native perspective.
The Conservative party is gaining ground and it`s time to change the roles, it`s time for that party to come to power, since there isn`t any other on the horizon (the Liberal Democrats are weak). The problem for conservatives is to change the image of their party from grumpy, pessimistic and out of touch to modern, optimistic having fresh ideas and in touch with reality. They should apply the recent Labour tactics and present their party now as more labour, more for common people. Now they stand a good chance of winning the elections. They just have to choose a perfect leader. David Cameron may be the one.
What do the British think of him? Is he really popular?  Is he eloquent as Blair was?

^^^^ I don't think Tony Blair was a good PM  Jane New Labour did nothing for the working man and women of this country ?
Labour need to go away and look at how they failed so many of us , think David Cameron will be the next PM ,which in a way will be good for Labour who will have to do a lot of soul searching and reconnect with their roots ?

For foreigners he seems to have been a strong prime minister. With rather advanced views, progressive, a good speaker and very "shrewdly cunning". An ideal politician. I don`t know whether he did anything for the working class and now I see, as you say, that he didn`t. But does any PM or President do anything for common people?

I see that in Britain people believe that Labour failed the electorate.
But isn`t the Conservative Party even further from ordinary people?

Don't think they will. It will be a miracle if Labour, regardless of who is charge, when this election.
My gripe is with the Conservatives - they've moved so far to the centre that if I weant to vote for a right wing party (which I do) I'm forced to vote for either nazi's or nutters, neither of which appeal.
