March 31st1962: Performance at Subscription Rooms, George St., Stroud, Glos
This was The Beatles’ first southern performance under Brian Epstein. They did have a poorly promoted and attended engagement three months earlier in the south, under Sam Leach. The tickets for this performance carry this request from the Council: “No Teddy Boys and Ladies please do not wear stiletto heels.” Lewisohn
1963: Performance at the De Montfort Hall, Leicester. This marked the end of the Roe/Montez tour.
1964: By this date “Meet the Beatles”, the US album released on January 20th, sold 3,650,000 copies. On the Canadian charts, Beatles records were in 9 of the 10 #1 positions. In Australia, The Beatles hold the top six slots on the singles chart: #1 I Saw Her Standing There, #2 Love Me Do, #3 Roll Over Beethoven, #4 All My Loving, #5 She Loves You, and #6 I Want to Hold Your Hand.
1964: Filming: A Hard Day's Night
Following their four-day Easter break, The Beatles returned to London's Scala Theatre to film the concert performance sequence which marked the climax of the A Hard Day's Night film. The performance took place in front of 350 fans, each of whom was paid a standard union fee for their appearance. Among them was Phil Collins, then a 13-year-old child actor, but later to find fame with Genesis and as a solo artist. In the film The Beatles are shown miming to four songs: Tell Me Why, If I Fell, I Should Have Known Better and She Loves You. They also filmed others, including And I Love Her and You Can't Do That, but these were unused in the final cut. The clip of the group miming to You Can't Do That was given by United Artists to The Ed Sullivan Show, which broadcast it exclusively on 24 May.BeatlesBible.com
So just where is Phil? Well, you won’t find him here…

…but you might find him here, at about :29 ½, down the row from Striped Sweater Girl as I came to call her during my many attempts at seeing him. Yes, Phil’s scene was sadly deleted from the final product but I don’t think anyone would have noticed him even if it had made the cut.

But wait! There’s 13 year old Phil, made visible for us. And if he had stuck with acting we might have never known he was there.

1964: Radio: Saturday Club
Following their day's filming at the Scala Theatre in London, The Beatles recorded a session for the BBC radio show Saturday Club at the Playhouse Theatre. The group hadn't given a concert during the whole of March 1964, the first time they had taken such a break from live performances in at least four years. As such, this appearance managed to sound fresh and spontaneous, in contrast to many of the routine appearances they had made for the BBC in recent months. They performed seven songs, four of which were yet to appear on a Beatles release: Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby, I Call Your Name, I Got A Woman, You Can't Do That, Can't Buy Me Love, Sure To Fall (In Love With You) and Long Tall Sally. The session took place from 7-10.30pm, including rehearsal time. During breaks in recording, John Lennon gave two interviews to the BBC Home Service radio network. Also present was Melody Maker journalist Ray Coleman. The edition of Saturday Club was broadcast on the BBC Light Programme on 4 April 1964. None of the songs were included on the 1994 collection Live At The BBC.

Freda Norris (nee Kelly), who had run the club for 11 years, commented, “Around 1965, the membership was 80,000...the membership now is down to 11,000.”
http://history.absoluteelsewhere.net/March/march31.html1974: Recordings were made which would comprise the bootleg recording “A Toot and a Snore in ’74”.
"This recording is the last performance by Paul & John in a studio. It happened on Sunday March 31, 1974. Although the performance is very poor, this recording is an historical moment to share.
On that day of March, John held a night music jam session at his beach house in L.A. Those in attendance included Paul McCartney (vocals, drums), Jesse Ed Davis (guitar), Harry Nilsson (vocals), Stevie Wonder (electric piano) & Bobby Keys (sax). John played vocals and drums. Mal Evans and May Pang also attended the session.
A few days sooner, on Thursday March 28, Paul & Linda had dropped at Burbank Studios, California, where John Lennon started to produce the Harry Nilsson album "girl private Cats". Paul & Linda intended to watch the recording, and Paul finally joined in a jam session with John and other musicians on the track "Midnight Special", joining John for the first time in a musical environment since the split of The Beatles."
