Something Else had a poor chart performance in US (#153).

Shame because its the best album they ever did in my opinion.

My favorite is The Village Green Preservation Society. But Something Else comes close along with Arthur.

Village Green is awesome, but I like 'Face To Face' more than Arthur.

I like all the mentioned albums. I think Lola is another enjoyable album. I tend to prefer some records over others, but I think there's a thin line between the essential Kinks albums. None of them is the great masterpiece, but they are all very good.

I like Lola and Powerman, but I think half of it is excellent and the other half is meh.

I agree, the record is quite uneven. But there's a balanced quantity of important hits ("Lola"; "Apeman"), fine ballads ("Strangers"; "Get Back In Line") and loud rockers ("Rats"; "Powerman"). Not the best Kinks album, but an enjoyable experience in my opinion.
