As many of you may know, at the end of 1966 the Beatles released their first greatest hits record in UK, called A Collection Of Beatles Oldies. It included all #1 singles in UK from 1963 to 1966, plus the popular ballads "Yesterday" and "Michelle", and the rarity of "Bad Boy", which had only been realeased in US.

Now think we are at the end of 1970, the Beatles no longer existed, but they wanted to release a new record for Christmas in UK called A Collection Of Beatles Newbies, including hits from 1967 to 1970. Which songs do you think should have been included?

I would have proposed the following track-listing:

Side 1:

1. Strawberry Fields Forever
2. Penny Lane
3. All You Need Is Love
4. I Am The Walrus
5. Hello, Goodbye
6. Lady Madonna
7. Revolution

Side 2:

1. Hey Jude
2. Get Back (single version)
3. The Ballad Of John And Yoko
4. Come Together
5. Something
6. Let It Be (single version)
"Love is old, love is new; love is all, love is you."

Side One :

01.Strawberry Fields
02.Penny Lane
03.Hello Goodbye
04.I Am The Walrus
05.Lady Madonna
06.Hey Jude

Side Two :

07.Get Back
08.Don't Let Me Down
09.Something
10.Come Together
11.Let It Be
12.The Long and Winding Road

I think both 'Strawberry Fields' and 'Get Back' are great openeres, while 'Hey Jude' and 'The Long and Winding Road' work good as closers.

You're missing two #1 singles in UK ("All You Need Is Love" and "The Ballad Of John And Yoko"), but "Don't Let Me Down" and "The Long And Winding Road" are fair inclusions. Maybe that record would have appealed more to the US market, as the last song was a #1 hit there.

It's interesting the inclusion of "Magical Mystery Tour", as it is the title track of the EP that was #2 in the UK singles chart.

Exactly. Plus I thought it was too much to skip MMT altogether.
