Banjo in All You Need is Love
« on: November 01, 2013, 03:14:55 PM »

I think John Lennon played the banjo in All You Need is Love. I looked up in the multitracks of the song and it was on the drum track.

I'm pretty sure John Lennon played the banjo on All You Need is Love.  Here's the personnel:

John Lennon: vocals, harpsichord, banjo
Paul McCartney: vocals, bass, double bass
George Harrison: vocals, guitar, violin
Ringo Starr: drums
George Martin: piano
Sidney Sax, Patrick Halling, Eric Bowie, John Ronayne: violin
Lionel Ross, Jack Holmes: cello
Rex Morris, Don Honeywill: tenor saxophone
Stanley Woods, David Mason: trumpet
Evan Watkins, Harry Spain: trombone
Jack Emblow: accordion
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithfull, Jane Asher, Mike McCartney, Pattie Harrison, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash, Keith Moon, Hunter Davies, Gary Leeds and more: chorus
Mike Vickers: conductor

(The Beatles Bible)

Welcome back, Daniel.  It's good to see you again.

I'll send you the drum, bass, banjo and guitar version of All You Need is Love to let you know I'm right about the banjo in the song.

Julia taught John to play banjo when he was a teenager.  She gave him her banjo but it went missing in the late 1950s.  He tuned and strummed it like a guitar.

He's strumming chords on the banjo and it's isolated very clearly on the version you posted, Daniel.  Thank you.

I don't recall any pictures of John with a banjo strange enough. I do know that there's a pic of Paul with the instrument tho.
