I chanced upon a double-CD Anthology of The Easybeats a few years ago in an Oxfam shop and, WOW!, what a fabulous group. However, as they only had the one hit in the UK, they're barely known here.
There was a story doing the rounds that in 1968, McCartney, in America at the time, heard 'Good Times' on the radio (backing vocals by Steve Marriott), rang up the station and said 'Hi, this is Paul McCartney, can you play that track again!' Don't know if it's true.
Ace Records, a good ten years ago, released four compilations of Australian 60s groups dividing them into Surf, Beat, r 'n' b and Psych. The surf and psych comps were superb and I think I might try and track down the other two.
