Hello Goodbye

I can stay till it's time to go

After Neil Young demanded Spotify choose between his music and Joe Rogan, the streaming giant has made its decision. To the surprise of no one except Neil Young, Spotify will be pulling Young's music from the platform. When you fire at the king of podcasting, you best not miss. Unfortunately for the classic rock star, he missed very badly

Apparently the Spotify website is having trouble processing all the subscription closures.

I just saw some Twitter conversations that Spotify were being overwhelmed and couldn't process the cancellations. Might be rubbish of course.

I like how Neil made a stand a few years ago against artists continually promoting products like Beer, Coke etc He released a great song ...This Notes For You.

That was 1988 Kev.  Never liked the song, but the video was cool.

Screw Neil Young.  I cant stand when musicians, athletes, and celebrities use their platform to preach their politics and beliefs.  Young even went so far as to become an American citizen just so he could vote for the Democratic party.  He should have stayed in Canada so he could worry about his own country.  I dont like Youngs music enough to care much, but he just made my decision of keeping Spotify that much easier.

It is hard to know what to believe.

Someone did mention that the company he sold the rights of his songs to for $150 million probably aren't too pleased he's unilaterally pulled them from the worlds largest  streaming service.  ha2ha

He's certainly put his money where his mouth is.

I remember David Geffen suing him after signing him after the 2 albums he made, Geffen said the albums, Trans & Everybody's Rockin were not commercial enough, Geffen lost the case.
Elton John later said, You cant sue Neil Young for being Neil Young  ha2ha

I think they see it as him putting other peoples money where his mouth is. He's already got the money.  ha2ha

I mean a lot of people will turn against him and look at this the way Todd does.

How much would Spotify have paid him per annum ?

True.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the deals. But when he sold his song catalogue he's effectively sold most of the future income from them being played.  So the money from Spotify I'd imagine would mostly go to the catalogue owners.

Although it's undoubtedly more complicated then that.
