I love that show, both the British and American versions. Are you feeling better now?

My 10-year-old son (my "little bear") left today for a 4-day, 3-night Boy Scout camp, 5 hours away. It's the longest time any of the kids has been away from the house, and he's the youngest! I know he's going to have a great time, but I am going into withdrawal.  :-\

I understand completely. It's still hard even when they are adults. I've had my 22 year old home for the last year and a half and it's going to be tough when she leaves for grad school in August.

Ah, so it doesn't get easier with time.  ;)   I rather thought not. The world seems a much scarier place now that I am a parent!

Hang in there Normandie, you have us for company :) I know how you feel though, I live with my sister and when she is on a business trip I hate it. The flat is so quiet and lonely :(

Yay! You seem like a person who likes to smile and make other people do the same.

Thanks Kathy! Now that she's finally found an apartment for herself and her two dogs I think she's getting excited. Sometimes it's hard to tell with her!

My dog Björn whom I've had since I was 5 years old is really sick, and we might have to put him down. How do you cope with something like this? It's somewhat comforting to know that it's for his best and he wouldn't be in any pain, but it still hurts...

It's always hard to lose a friend, whether it's a human being or an animal. Try to think of fond memories and let time do its healing work. Good luck.

I'm so sorry, AppleScruffy. My husband and I had to have our dog put down back in 1998. It's so sad. It hurts a LOT.  :'(

Very sorry Apple Scruffy,
I've had to put down two of my best freinds (not counting a few cats) Lucky Bucks and Sara D. Dogg and it's never easy. A freind gave me some words that made my grief much easier to deal with and truly appreciate my time with my pets and the love they gave me.
He told me, "Your dog will give you everything it can for it's whole life no matter what and it justs asks one thing from you, one time on one day. Thats to go with dignity and love".

Hello Goodbye

I'm sorry to hear this, Maxine.  A pet owner assumes a great responsibility for a domesticated animal that cannot survive on its own.  Part of that responsibility is to ensure that the pet does not suffer when no other medical or surgical treatment can be offered by the veterinarian.

On a less clinical note, yes, I know it hurts.  It's like losing a family member.  In time, fond memories will replace the sadness of loss.
I can stay till it's time to go

you get so attached to pet dogs and it really hurts when they die or get very sick, but put him out of his misery and have a good cry, as the others have said, time will heal and you'll always remember him with love and fondness.
