She`s got fantastic golden red hair. It`s rare. Don`t know about the Netherlands, but here it`s WOW.

30th Annual International Dutch Beatles Convention
[Posted by Dave Haber on Monday, 04/06/09 3:14 pm] [Full Blog] [Digg This]

Every year, in the Easter weekend, Beatles Unlimited organises its annual International Beatles Convention at the Theatre Musketon, Utrecht, Netherlands. This year it takes place on the 13th of April, 2009.

This annual event, the biggest on the European continent, has been held since 1980, with a Beatles market, exhibitions, an auction, films, video and laserdisc shows, a quiz, speakers and live music. Famous Beatles sound alike bands, Bootleg Beatles, Instant Karma, Lenny Pane, Pete Best and others, performed at these conventions. Through the years B.U. has welcomed guests such as Pete Best, Louise Harrison, Laurence Juber, Denny Laine, Cynthia Lennon, Mike McCartney, Henry McCullough, Jimmy Nicol, Tony Sheridan, Klaus Voormann & many others.

This year's Special guest will Pattie Boyd.

Pattie Boyd and George Harrison

The Dutch branch of The Official Beatles Fan Club was founded with Brian Epstein's/NEMS permission on the 10th of November 1963. It is the oldest and longest existing Beatles fan club in the world.

For more information, visit www.beatles-unlimited.com/category/convention/. (Site is in Dutch.)

Yes, I've been there once or twice a long time ago, I think in the early 80's. To be honest I don't think the message is entirely true. The Dutch branch of the Official Beatles Fanclub Club was indeed founded in 1963, but Beatles Unlimited is, as far as I'm aware, not a direct sibling of this official club. Beatlesfanclub.nl, for which I'm writing a weekly column with comments on the Beatlesnews, is. The official club was founded by Har van Fulpen in 1963. I remember the convention was not much more than a market with Beatles stuff, Yellow Submarine on a big screen and there was a special guest, but I can't remember who it was. I haven't been there for ages, so I really can't tell if things have changed much.
There is however another meeting which I might visit. It is in Blokker, very near where The Beatles played in June 1964. Tony Sheridan will be attending. It's only 10 km away from where I live.
