I've got other boys on my mind. Ones that aren't words on a computer screen.

You're still nice, though.

Okay, I have a question for you. Who's cover of Imagine do you like better Joan Baez's or Avril Lavigne's? I can't believe some of the people that covered this song. I mean Dolly Parton?? Ick.

I like Joan's better. She has a much better voice.

Hey Mairi! I posted this on another thread, but don't know if you saw it. You were saying that your dad got a ride from Paul in the seventies and that your mom met Any Kaufman! I would LOVE to hear the circumstances behind this being as those are two of my heroes!!! If that's okay.  :)

Sure, it's kind of cool, actually.

My dad was working in Scotland at the time and he was hitchhiking. Who picked him up in an old truck but the one and only Paul McCartney? My dad isn't one of those "idol worshipper" types, so when I asked him what they talked about, he replied the most mundane topics ever. Justthe weather, and he asked Paul how he liked the spot. Typical Scotsman I guess. Meeting Paul McCartney and talking about the weather. But I suppose it was nice for Paul. You'd get sick of people asking for your autograph all the time.

As for Andy Kaufman, my mom was in Toronto I think for a college project with a bunch of her class members. They were getting in the elevator and they saw... "is that... no it can't be... Andy Kaufman?" (This would have been duringthe '80s when he was on Taxi). They were all going to a party, so as a joke, they invited him. Imagine their surprise when he said yes! My mom got to talk to him. She said he was sad and kind of lost.

I think that says so much about Paul that he was cool enough to pick up a hitchhiker! Your dad must have looked like a cool guy. Does he have a Scottish accent? God, that is just SOOO cool? Did you die when he told you??

The Andy Kaufman story is sad. I mean, cool, but sad that he appeared lost. But he did seem to have major issues being himself. A mad genius I suspect.

Thanks for sharing!!! Very cool stories.

Haha, yeah, my dad was pretty cool in the seventies. He had Frye boots and a white boy 'fro. The accent was just the cherry on top, I suppose. When he told me, I was like, "DAD! Why haven't you mentioned this before?!"
