Not started yet. They're fiddling with the start date. Should be in the next week (this is a council after all).

I applied for and was given a Barclaycard last month and the buggers have gone and given me two free return tickets to either New York, Washington, Atlanta or Boston. Yoo hoo. So we're going to Boston in November! Can't wait - my first trip to the US mainland (I've done Hawaii a few times.)
I love american history so Lexington is a must see for me. Then I think we'll do a little drive around New England. We'll have 10 days. Any helpful hints much appreciated. Fancy a beer Matt? (or anyone else in the area?)

Kevin, you will LOVE Boston! It's a great town. Don't miss the Freedom Trail if you like history. It's probably ridiculously pathetic history compared to yours, but it's the best we can offer over here!

Now, this is important. In Boston is Harvard Square, an interesting place near the university which is great for people watching and catching street performers, many of them quite excellent. Just around the corner from the square is this little place in a basement called Club Passim. It's a kind of open mike place where anyone can come in. Who comes in are the folk singers from all up and down the Eastern seaboard, the stunning new artists studying at Julliard, and the amazing students from Harvard U. Borrow a guitar and put your name in for the open mike! There were a million people the night I went (well, 34 people had signed up before me) so they never got to me, but the entertainment was great. Some of these people are unbelieveably good. More: http://www.clubpassim.org/

My brother-in-law lives there. I'll ask him for recs for places to eat etc. if you'd like it. (Perhaps Matt will do as well.) I was there for a business conference, so I didn't get to see much personally. I want to go back!

You'll have to let me know your impression of mainland America. I hope we are well behaved! Have a great time!

Excellent thankyou. The street food (not a Thai Green Curry in sight) was superb. One good thing about Bangkok is London seems so calm and peaceful in comparison. Hong Kong was fun, but suprisingly cold (and expensive). Macau was a bit dull.

Thankyou. Yes I did and no I didn't. Never in an appropriate place unfortunately. The girlfriend's a five-star kind of girl, not a backpacking dope smoker type. To be honest, though I found being constantly waited on a bit disconcerting, the comfort was nice.

How does it feel to know that as a New Zealander, your national bird is the Kiwi, a silly-looking flightless bird weighing about three to nine pounds?

It keeps me awake at night. But it gave us our national motto - The Kiwi, eats roots and leaves
