Uni is going okay. I'm in a summer course for calculus 3. its tough but better than when i took it during the schoolyear.

I still work at the church, there aren't a whole lot of jobs around but my old boss was happy to have me back since I'm the most experienced of his crew.

Dont worry KE, I am trying. The poems are just a result from her inspiration. She will probably inspire alot of them for the next few years. that doesnt mean im relapsing back into what i was, its just that i'm drawing on what i felt then to write it.

Afrikaans was introduced by Dutch immigrants in the 16th or 17th century or so. It developed into its own direction from there. So, basically the language are the same and we can understand each other. But of course there's big differences too.

Okay, it's Dutch.

I think we'll understand eachother in writing, but not so much in speaking. I had a friend at work who was from the Netherlands and we tried to speak to eachother but we didnt get far.

It's a nice language though. Quite easy to study, apart from all those voegworde ... I miss it.

Forgive my ignorance (since I speak neither language mentioned above), but would you say that the differences between Dutch and Afrikaans are comparable to the differences between British English and American English?

no, I wouldn't say so. There was a conversation about Dutch and Afrikaans where Joost explained the difference really well... I mean, Afrikaans evolved from Dutch, so the words come from the same roots... I wonder, if it's like the difference between, say, Russian and Polish?
