HG: Oh, and I wound up with a pretty good name in Hebrew:  ברוך ישראל בן יהודה אריה
Well, I can see where Barry comes from :)

It is taking me ages to type in Hebrew in the Hebrew translator we have, plus my spelling is deteriorating over the years... :( So allow me to write in English :P

HG: יום הולדת שלי יום העצמאות
Your birthday date is really cool! And not meaning to be blunt, or mean, or unkind, or tactless... but I would imagine it will be close to the year we as well? I'd love to know what Israel was like in the old days.... I have a  book about Golda Meir and you can see pictures of Israel from her time. And also I like reading Leon Uris and one of his most famous books is Exodus and he describes the life of Halutzim in Israel and how they built it and all. A very touching story, for me anyway.

But stil, why didn't you say before that you can write in Hebrew?

KE,

I was born on the second anniversary of Statehood.  And, yes, it's obvious where my English name came from.  I visited Israel in 1963 for my Bar Mitzvah and again in 1967, 1968, 1989 and 1999.  If you'd like to know how Israel looked in the early 1960s, watch the movie Exodus which was filmed in 1960.  The big boom in building came in the mid-60s so what you see in the movie is pretty much the way Israel was in during the War of Independence.

I worked on Kibbutz Givat Hashlosha after the Six Day War which was on the old Jordanian border near Rosh Ha Ayin.  There were bomb shelters all around the Kibbutz which, fortunately, fell out of use use on my arrival.  When I first saw the Western Wall in June 1967, it was an alley.  The buildings in the area were soon bulldozed to create the plaza there now.  When I visited the Sanhedrin Tombs, there were still remnants of the battle fought there just three weeks before.  I needn't go into particulars.  The Temple Mount and Shuk were deserted as the East Jerusalem population had fled the battle area.  I visited and went to the top of Migdal Shalom in 1968 which was the tallest building in Israel at the time.

With each subsequent visit, I was pleased to see the country progressing.  But you could always find areas which changed very little, as you no doubt know.

Life is.... confusing! I just dont know what I want from llife. *sigh* And I mean, I can just live it, you know, just go with its flow but where is it flowing? Sorry, I am being all ... philosophical?

Talking of which, Philosophy is a really good course! Really makes you think. ;D

Got a busy weekend, me. Work tomorrow, then going out, and on sunday off to the movies.

I must admit I should come here more often.... when I'll get my own laptop I will.

What you been up to?

not a whole lot. Work mostly. Had to get a root canal the other day, always fun.

there's nothing wrong with being philosophical. I do it far too much for my own good.

You're not alone in not knowing what you want in life, but you will. don't worry. life is a long journey, and you've only just begun

'Ello Mrs Lennon!

Took me ages to reply, sorry. Uni is getting quite hectic, as we are near end of term and I took up two more dance classes so me is being busy.

How have you been?
