This Sunday I'll be posting the first round of questions in the quest to find Dm's Beatles Mastermind.

Each week, for ten weeks, I'll be posting ten questions in ten separate categories, including pictures, video's, and soundclips. Some will be easy, and some pretty tough, so you'll need to get your thinking caps on.

The first six categories are straight question and answer rounds. 'The Big Picture' will feature someone, or something that you have to identify. For instance, it may be an album cover, or someone associated with the group. 'Name That Tune' will consist of a video of The Fabs, but without the sound. You have to identify the song. In 'Beat The Intro' you'll be given a short soundclip of a song intro. But keep your ears pinned back because they are very short. 'The Big Finish' will be a difficult 10 point question, to sort the men from the boys!

Here are the categories. Good luck!

Beginnings
From the Quarrymen to first chart success
Beatlemania
From Love Me Do to Candlestick Park
The Studio Years
Sgt. Pepper, The Walrus, and beyond
And In The End
Get Back to Abbey Road
At The Movies
Test your knowledge of The Beatles in film
Quote Unquote
Who said what?
The Big Picture
Who or what is that?
Name That Tune
Videos of The Beatles
Beat The Intro
Identify the song and win the points
The Solo Years
Test your knowledge of the post Beatles era
The Big Finish
The big ten pointer!

The Scoring System
Two points will be given for every correct answer, unless specified otherwise. For instance, in the case of a two part question, points will be awarded accordingly. Ten points will be awarded for 'The Big Finish' question. A further five points will be awarded to anyone who answers all questions correctly.

Please do not post your answers on the forum. PM them to me with the heading 'Mastermind', no later than 12 noon GMT on Sunday.

Remember, if you want to win, you'll have to play each week!

Or the women from the girls!

Sounds fun, Paul. What happens if someone has to miss a week due to travel? Automatic out?

All you've got to do is choose love.  That's how I live it now.  I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden.  I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007<br />

If someone lets me know in advance that they're going to be away, it's possible that I could PM them the questions early - if I have them, or delay giving the answers out for a couple of days. We'll see what happens.

You're not out if you don't play one week. But you will be behind in the points. I'll be posting the points table with the answers each week.

I've added a new category: The Solo Years.

;D ;D

I thought of a few interesting questions.

Not too sure how the quiz is shaping up. It looks like it might be too easy for some people, and too tough for others. I've been trying to find a happy medium. We'll find out next week I suppose.

I think you should only ask questions that you think I know. Otherwise, I'll probably lose!

Fine option on the "going away" business. I may be here, but I never know. Cheers.

There seems to be some trouble with the Name That Tune video, though it's working fine for me. I'll check it out.

Sorry, I can't tell - is it posted somewhere yet?
I love John,
I love Paul,
And George and Ringo,
I love them all!

What was the final word on the rules ... "open book" exam, i.e., we can use whatever resources we can get our hands on:

1) Google,
2) Other online resources,
3) Resources we have at home:
       a) Books
       b) Magazines
       c) Album Covers
       d) CDs
       e) Songbooks
4) Bill Harry or Tony Sheridan!

... or are we only allowed to answer from memory?

I could have sworn I saw a post last week asking a similar question, but I don't remember seeing your answer BM, and I can't locate that post anymore ...

Thanks, I'll delay answering until I know what resources I can use to answer the questions (sorry ahead of time if this is explained somewhere else that I can't find at the moment), and until the "Name that Tune" video for week 1 is up and running (doesn't work here).

You can do whatever you like!

I don't know why the vid isn't working. It works for me. Maybe I'll just put the link to YouTube.

maccalennon

yeah name that tune video is working. it just says video is no longer available

BlueMeanie

I uploaded it to YouTube again. They keep deleting it for some reason. It's working on my computer.

maccalennon

i managed to view it on my mac but not on my windows laptop. If that gives any clues to the problem, i dont know what they are but may be relevant in some way
