It can be so that one band influences the musical scene but doesn`t become widely popular. While another band doesn`t introduce much new into the development of music but gains popularity all over the world. Your Mowtown can be the case, with M.J. following and getting all the fruits of popularity in the whole world. Mind, I do not question the greatness of Mowtown.
Every M.J.`s song was a hit! Besides, do not forget his Thriller, which was a new type of music videos. All his videos were brilliant, differing from each other, exciting to watch. And his Thriller sold more copies than all other records, I believe it hasn`t fallen much behind even now. Everybody loved M.J. from children, teenagers to their parents. He was a pop-king. It`s hard to deny this fact. And have you noticed one interesting thing: the more argument an artist arouses the greater he is.
However, as far as I am concerned I don`t listen to his songs and I am not his fan at all.

Nothing beats I Want You Back for me though...that's how I remember him best.

I LOVE that song!!!! It's one of the few songs I can put on repeat and just listen to it over and over and over again.

Check out Bob Fosse in The Little Prince 1974. I think you can see where many of Jackson's dance moves came from including the famous moon walk.

i always thought the moonwalk was invented by neil armstrong in 1969?

My favorite solo Michael Jackson song HAS to be Man in the Mirror! What a great tune.
I am posting on an internet forum, therefore my opinion is fact.

Isn't it weird that we had this discussion not so long ago? And now...

What ever you think of MJ we will be talking about him for decades to come .
Music wise i like Off The Wall and the early Motown recordings the Jackson five did , not over keen now of Thriller and his latter stuff apart from a couple of songs , so i would say i'm much more of a 70's fan of MJ's music .

You need another opinion from a different part of the world to be more objective: Michael Jackson was a great act of the 80s, his music was most welcome and most embraced, he introduced new sounds, he was a banner of the 80s. Some people consider him to have been the most original, unlike the others act. Irrespective of the fact whether we consider his music good or bad nowadays, he was great.

I am glad I wrote these words then. And I repeat that Michael was and is great.
